It's official: Browns fans are the nicest fans on earth.

Thanks, I guess, but what leads you to say this? Having sat in the Dawg Pound in the old stadium on occasion I'm not sure I'd agree.

Anyone who is enough of a lunatic to travel out of town to see this edition of the Br:rolleyes:wns is either very dedicated or needs some advice on what else to do on a weekend in Chicago.

St. Louis Cardinals fans are the nicest I've met.

I'm at the game now. The fans who drove out to Chicago to root for the browns are very nice.

And Cardinals fans make me

I've lived in Chicago for 9 years, but I can't give up the Cardinals. Especially to switch to the Cubs.

I felt the same way when I lived in NYC in the '90s. I couldn't warm to the Mets, and we lived four subway stops away from Yankee Stadium, so I watched a lot of Yankees games and had a great deal of ambivalence towards them, particularly since they had been terrible for about 12 years when I got there.

Now that we are out of New York, I can let my Yankee hatred flower, much to the amusement of my wife, who comes from Westchester County.

I hate the Yankees. In fact, I despise just about every NY team.

I think the only way cruise companies make money is through alcohol and soda sales. Other than that you are probably paying under $200 a night for all you can eat (really good) food and resort like accommodations.

More likely the alchocohol as the soda cards ar $40. Unless of course you use glass ware the whole time which save the majority of the money on the product itself.

FIrst and only cruise I took was a business expense!! :)

We've talked about my desire to lecture on-board so I'm clearly not one of the doubters.

I was the Chaporon for a Cruise Class at UNLV. The class was a summer elective and lasted three weeks. I had to give one lecture and work for a week on a boat with college age students. I guess I shouldn't mention that we had one kid miss the boat after a port of call in Mexico so he was flown to Miami as he didnt have a passport and in order to fly anywhere except the US at the time he could do so with his drivers license.

T-24 hours roughly till the time for the first StarMegaDO FLight!!

Good afternoon, Box. I won't regale you with the sordid details of the last 36 hours or the exploits thereof; suffice it all to say that I apparently make excellent vodka punch and my wife is incapable of refraining from face planting in a shrubbery after imbibing copious quantities of the aforementioned punch.

It was a good night. :D

Basically, yes. But a (minor) cultural icon, for some reason probably better known and followed (often televised) in Europe than here. It's also significant in that it was one of the first "frivolous" events to take place after 9/11, helping to lift New York a ways out of the shock and offer catharsis from that terrible fall.

Added: Just looked at the wikipedia page out of curiousity, and found this trivia: "The parade is listed in the book 100 Things to Do Before You Die: Travel Events You Just Can't Miss."

I'd be very careful of mentioning this once she is awake :D

I'm hunting for the best pork belly... A few of the local butchers have it but so far the Asian markets seem to have better quality.

My plan this week is to braise it for about an hour and a half and use a glaze to get the outside nice and crispy. I'm also going to try my hand at succotash but will have to use frozen corn :(

We had cruised a couple of times over the years, once on the Italian line from New York and once on Costa out of the Carribbean and were always lukewarm on the experience but about 6-8 years ago we sailed on a Princess ship from Long Beach down the Mexican Coast. This ship was disgraceful, overcrowded, and run-down. The food was lousy and we could find no redeeming qualities. :td:

As the cruise progressed we were astounded by the Yahoo cruise regulars who continually were carrying on about how great this cruise was and how they had been served the best food they had ever tasted.

As you may have imagined, there is very little anyone will be able to do to get us on a ship again for quite a while now. I certainly do not trust any reports that tout the quality of the cruise experience.

ConciergeMike Nov 1, 2009 3:49 pm

Generalizing all cruises is a fail. The consumer-targeted lines like Carnival and Royal Caribbean are far inferior to the upper upscale market segment.

Costa is a Carnival Corp. product -- did it once and will not go back.

I'm a big fan of Princess, and eight years is forever in the life of a cruise ship. They have brought about ten new ships into service in that timeframe.

I just watched a guy flip out over not getting an upgrade due to a buy by someone else at checkin.

In some ways I agree, esp coming from certain groups of people.

When I take a cruise I think I really want to do it on a line like this:
http://www.starclippers.com/

I am always going for the smaller companies, the more natural thing, etc, so this seems a given to me :D (Not saying exactly this company, but just an example of one)

I've been on both the Star Clipper and the Star Flyer (their first two ships) when they first came out about 15 years ago. They serve a very interesting niche and are completely different than a standard cruise.

I tremendously enjoyed my EasyCruise in Greece a couple summers ago. It was clean and moderately comfortable and it allowed us to see a lot of Greece at a far lower cost than bummning around on ferries. In a location like Greece, it just made a lot of sense. It certainly isn't for everyone though.
