I told icurhere2 at the time we were discussing it that I know a guy who lectured onboard a Cunard crossing. He's the concierge at the Waldorf Towers, and he did a program on NYC history. Given the tax bracket of much of that ship, many of them had done extended stays at the Waldorf and he wrote a lecture in which the hotel's contributions to history were extensively noted.

Welcome to The Box, icydog. ^

Jump right in; the  are warm.

Rental car would have cost another $45 if we kept it past 9 am and the flights looked pretty full toward the end of the day.

If you had spent another day in the sun you would have gone from  to .

you should be able to pick up the others from there and the 'originals' as well. You have permissions to use on your own.

After spending time on a Tank Landing Ship I have no problems at all with seasickness ...

The benefits are while onboard. If it only costs me a few hours per year to keep up my status, and I cruise once that year and get lounge access, free Internet, free dry cleaning and shoe polishing, no waiting in line at the pier or for disembarking at ports, a free minibar, canapes on formal night, afternoon tea, 10% off in the shops, comped wine tasting events, and upgraded cabin and bathroom amenities, it's well worth those few hours for that one cruise.

Those are some nice benefits. The only cruise Ive been on was a 13 day NCL cruise around Hawaii and some other island but dont remember the name. It kinda sucked because I was 18 so no alcohol (but my dad took care of that) and no casino.

You live in NYC; you can hit the Caribbean, the UK and Canada without flying. @:-) Might be something to consider - you may find that you like it as an adult because of the booze and the casino. :D

U of Colorado was a participant in that program, so IIRC, he did it as part of his standard teaching assignment. But, yes, if your school doesn't participate in such a program, it would have to be a "leave" situtation, I would guess.

Interesting that your school does not give sabbaticals. Does that mean there is some modification to the tenure system there? I'm not saying I advocate tenure (I have no well founded opinion), but it is a part of university life that is hundreds of years old, and the unions and associations certainly must defend it fiercely.

No real modification to the tenure system and unpaid leave would always be permitted - however, there are many state systems without universal sabbaticals.
