Greetings back to you from about 20 minutes away from the airport here in CLT. Rain has stopped, and the sun is coming out! Perhaps, it is a harbinger of the good things to come with CO entering *A.:D^

The fiancee pulled a diva moment and decided to go home and change while the rest of us were sweating like pigs getting stuff together and kitchen things prepped. This trip can't come soon enough.

Question for the Box:

For my EWR-DEN flight this evening, there are 12 F seats, 11 booked, I'm #1 on the upgrade standby list. I don't know if it's standard practice to hold at least 1 F seat until battlefield time in case of a last minute purchase or rebook, but I figured my chances seem decent..

However, I also have a PC day pass that I was thinking about using today since I'll have a couple hours to kill at the airport...but probably not enough time to make it worth it if I have to be at the gate over an hour ahead of time to sweat out the upgrade situation..

Can PC agents get communication from GA's - I.e. will I miss my chance at the upgrade if I'm not physically AT THE GATE when they decide to release that last seat?

Battlefield upgrades generally clear with in 5-10mintes of boarding. So you should be in the area. That being said, I watch the list change on pda.continental.com while waiting. You will see your name clear before they call it.

Good thing I'm a low-roller. Four races down, 15 assorted bets lost.

When you enter the Club, have an agent review your flight's status; he/she will see and tell you your upgrade status at that time, and will let you know what you need to do and when. They can, and do, communicate by phone with the gate when they need to.

EWR gate agents tend to wait until T-30 minutes before clearing their standby lists. I would not wait until 10-15 minutes before departure to show up at the gate. Remember they will assume that you are not going at the T-15 minute mark. As nice as the Clubs are, you should be at the gate 30 minutes before, if for nothing else than to bug the gate agent about your upgrade. :D

I've encountered an agent at IAH that won't clear upgrades until everyone is boarded.

I guess I should have been a little less zealous, since JUST as I got to EWR, about 10 minutes after I typed out that post on the train, I got my EUA email. :D Still F1 though - someone must have cancelled or gotten rebooked. #2 and #3 on the list behind me appear to have the same last name, so that's going to be sad...

What a crappy gate agent. And talk about a mess on board moving around people and their bags.

I work with some agents in SFO that also like to wait. I try to move them along but their :rolleyes: is high. Reminding them about how it feels when you are non-reving to have to wait tends to prod them into slow motion instead of standing there like a deer in the headlights.
