Random (FlyerTalk) Wedding
I was the witness for a wedding this afternoon. I hadn't met the couple before this afternoon, but that didn't stop them from inviting me (via FlyerTalk) and letting me sign the marriage certificate as a witness. Completely surreal participating in a wedding for random strangers, and completely wonderful at the same time. Plus, it was an opportunity to take more photos, which I always love. :D

Next month, my travels take me to cool, dry ATL and BTR for a week at a time, with DC in between. I'll need a week in Alaska just to recover.
Last time I was in Alaska was in August and it was 80 every day. |

Called CO to book SGN; was able to get IAH-HKG BF at around $1400 plus miles (H Fare); am doing UA HKG-SGN; will do a quick trip to XMN on KA when I arrive HKG. So even adding the UA in C; KA in C; I'm saving $2k over what I would have paid with BR. I'm loving life right now. I've decided I'll go all out and stay in the new wing in the Sheraton in SGN :)

My bargain H fare upgraded to BF has been so screwed up I've had to make 3 calls to CO. Not such a bargain now!

Commented on the photos in the thread; great shooting as usual. How cool. Reading the thread was some kind of fun too. What was the deal with all the bad juju that got deleted?
As for the bad juju, there was a LOT of sniping back and forth about the fact that the couple was planning on having a wedding without lots of family and friends around. Basically some folks thought that such an activity was an abomination and others thought that the wedding was between the couple getting married and that the nay-sayers should shut up. You can see how that would degenerate quickly. My opinion on the topic comes from my background, which says that a marriage is a community event. And being a member of the community (both FT and NYC) I was really excited to participate. Plus, weddings are fun. I had a great time. |
