maybe one of these days the discount gods will find me and cut me a break. :)

Go on the last hour on the last day of the month and negotiate the tar out of it. Don't pay a joining fee. If you're outside Manhattan you can get it for under $50/month (list is like 100) assuming your home gym doesn't have a pool.

Usually the sales rep can tag you on to a corporate discount. I think the NYPD one is one of the most generous. ;)

Also ask around if any of your friends or neighbors are members. Sometimes they have decent spiffs for referrals.

I had planned on turning today into a summer Friday (we technically don't have them) ;) but here I am - 4pm, and still doing work. Argh.

In other news, I recovered most of yesterday's market losses today. Looks like I can change from PBR to Coors Light for the weekend. :o

I wasn't allowed to visit my sister between the time that I bought the ring and when I proposed, as she didn't think she'd be able to keep the secret. Good luck!

Thank you, sir. She has sworn to me up and down that it's too important for her to say anything. Not that I don't believe her, but her track record is nowhere near that good. I refreshed my memory as far as the bands that we like while I was there, and as it turns out, my favorite design for my band is stainless steel.

What are you investing in? Airlines or Tech?

How was the romp through Jeweler's Row? I'll be there tomorrow to try and sell a diamond ring (long story saved for later). Hopefully, I get a good price on it. If not, it heads to eBay or Craigslist.

My GPS got me so f-ing lost that ended up by Morton's and Tiffany's...16th and Broad or something ridiculous. The system couldn't keep up with the exits immediately over the Ben. There was a romp, but it certainly did not involve Jeweler's Row. The Row itself is quite torn up - they're laying down new brickwork at 7th and Sansom. I hate driving in Philly - I honestly without sarcasm prefer driving in Manhattan.

The trip itself other than getting there was great - the ring is in the mail (no sales tax!) and I'll have it safely hidden in my house inside of a week. And it's absolutely gorgeous....I hadn't seen it in the setting at all until today.

In a side note, I saw the LH A343 whose approach I wanted to shoot, but I saw it from 676 in Camden just as it lowered the gear. I was all set to go shooting when I realized that it's a summer Friday. Bzzt. Wrong answer. I'm not sitting in bridge traffic.

ETA: How cute. FT is inserting DeBeers ads.

Sorry about your travels through Philly. As someone who is in Center City everyday, I don't use GPS while there. Actually, I was down in DE today. Traffic headed into NJ is bad right now - lots of people heading to the beaches (shore, for those Jerseyans on here).

I hate driving in Center City. South Philly - totally different. I can get to the stadiums and the airport/spotting locations no problem. I had to use GPS just because that area on Broad from City Hall to the Kimmel Center is the only part of Center City that I really know. A whopping six or eight blocks, however long it is. I beat the shore traffic, but not by much. The ramp from the Walt was jammed, and that was about it. I managed to get across that six lanes of hell from the right side over to the 295 South exit without much problem. I'm safely in my girl's bedroom as I write this, knowing that if I were alone in the city and had I gone to shoot that I wouldn't get back here until after dinner.

Any plans for the weekend? Is it hot and humid over there right now?

I'm thinking about visiting Philly with the great fares going on right now. Any recommendations on what to see/do?

Hola Miss Bliss. Jump in anytime. The conversation here does run decidedly East Coast, but you will soon be getting LAX company, as one of our IAH regulars took a job out there.

Love Park, the rocky statue/Art Museum, tons of great restaurants, the Water Works and Boathouse Row. National Constitution Center, the Mint, and you simply must have a cheesesteak. Catch a Phils game if that floats your boat, since the stadium is beautiful. USS New Jersey. There's plenty. If you do come out, definitely let me know.
