I did not realize that.

I have had to hear about the deficiencies of Texas' medical system from a certain someone who enjoys every opportunity she gets to take pot-shots at my fair State. I am always sure to point out that, if their hospital system is so great, why is the State infested with toothless swamp-people.

Have any of you vacationed in SJU? I didn't find many good SPG options, but the Caribe Hilton looks pretty nice. Has anyone been there?

As I watch it snow this afternoon in CLE, I got a great vacation deal email from CO, and for a whopping 238 we can fly RT to SJU.

I think it is time to go someplace warm and sunny :)

The Caribe Hilton is a very nice property, newly renovated IIRC. I didn't stay there, but had the restaurant prepare a fresh-caught Wahoo for a group I was there with. The common areas and location were excellent. I generally stay at the Sheraton Old San Juan, which is a decent property, but generally charges too much.

That calls for photos. :D

It's not as bad as you think - it's technically habitable, but without renovations, no one would want to live in it unless you offered it to them for free.

Actually, the one that was the nicest for the price was the $1400 one. Totally habitable and in a semi-decent area. $15k would turn it into a really nice rental property.

At those prices, you can afford to pay cash and not care that you won't be able to sell the house for more than a de minimus amount.

That sounds great. Thanks, ALCO! I also looked at the Sheraton, but I think a beach/ocean view will be required. We have been to Old San Juan before, but only had an afternoon there, so we had to hussle through.

I'll let you know what we decide to do. I think this will have to wait until post-DO, and until I know what's going on with the job.

Anyone know the approximate value of an HHonors point, for the purpose of the Coupon Connection? I doubt I will ever use mine, and am curious to know what their approximate value would be. SPG is easy, as it's generally 1:1 with most airline programs, but HHonors points are harder to pin a value on.

I don't know the exact value , I remember needing a few thousand points for a room redemption at a Hilton Garden Inn , so I got the points from someone in a combo deal , i believe the award room was 25 K total for some sort of low level room award

It is further complicated by the fact that I am not familiar enough with Hilton Hotels to know which Category at SPG best maps to an HHonors Cat 6. Generally, SPG has nicer properties. So, if it takes 80,000 points to stay two nights at a Hilton Cat 6, is that equivalent to two nights at an SPG Cat 4 (20K), or Cat 5 (24K-32K), or Cat 6 (Doubtful, but 40K low-season nonetheless).

Pardon my ignorance, but how does this swap take place? You trust a CC member to make a reservation in your name and vica versa?

Essentially, yes. Caveat Barter.

I've had one successful trade of SPG for SWUs, which worked out quite well on the mistake fare to AKL.

There are so many types of trades , sometimes you book an award and they book one for you . Other times there are point transfers from account to account , depending on the program .
In my case the other party deposited HH directly to my HH via a conversion from his AAdvantage Account.

Not yet, fortunately, but its only because I've been very careful. I have had a few :rolleyes:s PMing me but I knew better to not reply.
