Once the :-: transition is complete, I suspect that much of my TATL Y business will be going to AC. They offer late afternoon flights from IAH that connect to the late-bank of European flights, and their Y product is excellent. I don't know if pricing will change after the transition, but AC has had very competitive pricing on both TATL and TPAC ex-IAH for the past several winters.

Don't you still have to deal with CA  for transiting?

Lesser of multiple evils, I guess. CO Y seat vs. LH 744 Y seat vs. Canadian Transit. Unless IAH-DME goes daily and :-: carriers start a hub at DME, SQ isn't really a reliable TATL option.

That's the feature within Google Maps I was referring to - fortunately, they do obscure the images on (most) yard and business signs.

I was looking at Times Square (5th & 44th?) the other day --- everything is blocked by a Red Apple tour bus going through the intersection. You'd think that they would have another photo to use. :p

Having top tier in Hilton, Marriott, and SPG I see both the good and bad in all three, and honestly, it's hard for me to say one is the clear winner over the others. They all seem to have their mix of outstanding, average, and awful hotels; and they all have their benefits as well as their areas they fall behind on. If you want to go after upgrades to larger suites, and plan on staying in a lot of properties that offer them, by all means, go for SPG Platinum. Keep in mind that coming from a program like Hilton or Marriott, you'll see fewer lounges overall at full service properties, and fewer comped breakfasts, things that Marriott and Hilton both heavily promote to their top tier members. A lot of it really comes down to where you're going to be traveling, and what you value most out of a loyalty program.

I'll continue to keep status with Marriott because they are usually a great alternative to SPG when prices are

However, after some recent stays at various Courtyards, I'm disappointed in the brand. I used to have great experiences in Denver with them but that seems to be a thing of the past.

Physical plant aside, much of one's experience is dictated by the caliber of the GM.

Also, it's amazingly difficult to maintain the integrity of the brand when a bunch of franchisees are involved. Sometimes I wonder why they even go through the charade.

Way to go.

Oh, I'm about 1/2 way through Charlie Wilson's War. It'll be done by the time we're back from EDI.

I really enjoyed the movie, as I do with almost anything Aaron Sorkin writes.

Dmitri can take a number from my assistant, Sister Gretna Pulkova of the East German Directorate of Civil Administration, Regulatory Sub-Administration, Bureaucratic Efficiency Division. She is also, coincidentally, a Gold-Medalist in Women's 400m Freestyle, Men's 400m Freestyle, and holds the world-record for consecutive number of Soyuz Capsules crushed between a pair of thighs.

Thank you and thank you. I was wondering how you were progressing...I presume you're enjoying. Now, my book club reportage would be complete if monitor would stop by and let me know if he received House of Mondavi.

In true scatterbrain fashion, I'm reading two books at once: that Vietnam-era attack squadron social history and Kitchen Confidential. I need to keep the names and places straight in the social history, so I think Tony Bourdain has to take a back seat. Plus, there is precious little out there written about Naval Aviation's most beautiful ugly aircraft, the venerable A-6 Intruder.
