I May be going on April. Now I have to figure out where the heck I am going to get an extra $3,500 from, because there is no way I am doing economy again.

I hit China in April/May though have skipped Canton of late because it has turned a bit . I heard a few good things about the last one, so may try it again in Oct. Guangzhou is one of my least favorite places in the world. There is only so much smog one can take ;)

Is it automatic or do you request it? My mom is Amex Plat and is about to have a multi day stay at a Sheraton. I've booked her a suite which has executive lounge priviliges but would like her to have the bonus.

My first real day off in Paris - finally. I went to La Roche Guyon (splendid and scenic and quiet - tiny town with friendly people) and Giverny (tourist trap with some cool stuff to see.) In Giverny I got a gift pack from a random roadside stand of traditional brut cider and an apple apertif.

Anyone else ever climb through chalk caves? La Roche Guyon has this medieval keep atop a chalk hill that is connected to the chateau below by caves/stairs cut into the chalk. Amazing view of the poppy fields in bloom once you get up all 250 uneven and precarious steps through the chalk tunnels. Interesting note about chalk tunnels, aside from obvious effects on clothing, is that if you try to grab the wall to balance yourself it merely crumbles away - and you fall. Keep your hands kung-fu gripped to the handrails.

Giverny is where Monet's house is and gardens with the pond that he painted Waterlilies from - and it is really is that amazing and scenic looking. A bit of a tourist trap, but amazing.

La Roche Guyon:

I enjoyed Giverny. I'm a Monet fan so seeing the gardens and pond was quite surreal. I loved it. The American museum down the road had a stellar exhibit when we went that was probably one of the nicest I've seen small scale.

Thank you to whoever no-showed 1401 this morning - we were the last three to board and we cleared all three promo upgrades.

^ When I cancel or change at the last minute I always think about how happy I'm making that person who now gets my seat!

I like it. I don't know that I use it fully functioning but I use everything I need to. I have difficulties with the touchscreen sometimes, but that could just be me. Battery life is pretty good. Keyboard is very easy to use. My only complaint is that sometimes it does things on its own (like I'm on a call and it randomly starts calling someone else or will pop into bubble breaker). Overall, it is the best phone for me.

Morning, Box. Today, the move to AUS begins. Someone please say some kind words over my remains if I drop dead due to sheer boredom while driving across the desert.

In addition to the gardens (more than amazing), Monet's house (interesting) we also enjoyed the American Museum down the road. We had a great lunch on the way out of town at the site of a former mill - waterwheel and all.

We'd hired a random tour guide/driver for the trip. Turned out he had a masters in history from the Sorbonne. We scored on that one.

Guess you beat me to it!

Crossing my fingers this is the correct place for this post:

Wow - shock of shocks. I actually got a call back from a *Wood property. The streak of 0-for-25 on applications (which was, in actuality, partially my fault since I had misunderstood part of their Web forms) has come to an end...the sad part is that I applied to several jobs at this property and I really don't know which one they called me for. :o

^ Keep us posted!

I have the older 8525 and have that happen many times. Mine goes to the internet pages as I think I hit the internet button! Does that HTC tilt?

Are you there yet? :D

In other news, I did find the tail number for a flight I previously took and couldnt find anywhere. Funny how I wrote it down on the borading pass but it never made it to flight memory!

Also I noticed that I have taken CO1704 many times but never noticed that in 1997 it was AUS-IAH instead of the current routing OKC-IAH. Very cool!

Anyone in the box going to the International Airliners show in Orlando at the end of July?

I missed the memo that au poivre sauce is not supposed to be spicy...only dull spot on an otherwise bright 80th birthday. The sauce, and the unfortunate reality that I had to deal with that one family member that everyone else wishes would crawl in a hole.

We have someone on each side of our family like this. We try and keep the get togethers to once a year; unfortunately we'll have to see both within one month.

I don't recognize nor care about most people. I did sit across from Danny Glover in the ORD RCC for about 4 hours and he was very nice. Had a good chat. I think part of the reason he was chatty was (besides boredom) I could have cared less who he was.

Just curious - did you spend lots of time playing the game? Using the map?

I suppressed my response to it as well.. i was quite tempted to fling open the window and shout "Stop it! You're not even doing it right!"

Seriously, a nasal scream? I know vocal coaches who would faint. Same ones who taught me that difference between when to pronounce "the" as "thuh" or "thee" accordingly (hint: it involves vowels.)

If anything, the experience taught me just how contrived and forced the act of screaming truly is.

In other news.. I've figured out the flavor i'm not too fond of many french foods - it appears to be rosemary. I never use it in my own cooking and don't order many things with it because I know I don't like it. C'est la vie. I've found myself to be quite happy with french food as prepared by Italians. The panini place, the Italian restaurant, and even the nicer french restaurant were all Italian chefs. Go figure.. i wonder if i can get a pizza to go at this hour... Even if they do put an egg and creme on it.

Oh. and before anyone tries to get all soap-box preachy on me about accepting other cultures - if anything the French are utterly hypocritical about acceptance of diversity. They tout themselves as enlightened but will not sell you a ticket or deny you service in a heartbeat because you're not french. Not because you broke any rules, not because you don't know how to act appropriately, but because you're not french.

Yes, there are americans who act poorly, i'm not one of them, and i certainly haven't deserved the nasty treatment i've gotten from some of the french.

Hope the insurance co. pays -- be careful -- depending on the amount of the claim -- it may or may not be worth filing, if it might potentially result in higher rates later on -- you need to talk to the insurance agent!
