hahaha yes .89 :)

For $89 I'd be purchasing something a lot more potent.

I use them for just about everything financial, including our mortgage (except the IRA which I roll all of my old 401ks into -- that's TIAA-CREF -- though USAA is supposedly pretty good that way too). The bank is outstanding -- Deposit@Home up to $10k per day if you are eligible, refund up to $15 per month in ATM convenience fees, and deals with various banks not to charge you an ATM surcharge (in my area, it's PNC), great customer service. Since we were moving around a lot -- and now that I'm traveling -- these features are great.

The only problem is if you're not in SAT and need a local bank for some reason (I had to get some papers signed by a bank some years ago, but was able to use the local bank where my kids have UGMA accounts).

I'm pretty sure it used to be limited to current or former military officers, and was then extended to dependents of USAA members (which is how I got in, thanks to my father's time in the Air Force in the late '60s/early '70s), and now is open to current and former enlisted personnel.

Actually USAA does have a bank in LAS (PHX too I believe) as they sell CC in Nevada and need a bank there. I dont even think that they have an ATM there but you can deposit in person there for the SAT branch. Also the ATM surcharges work in the way that they refund surcharges up to the first $15 or the first 10 a month (depending on how the limits are meet).

Back when I got into USAA (early 90s) you could be a grandchild of a member (ie I was Grandfathered in ;) ). The other thing to point out is they never charge you to use another banks atm like most banks do.

Another feature I use a bit is the ability to move money between banks as if it where all at USAA. This means I can deposit at my local free bank and move the money to USAA instantly. I dont recall if this feature is limited to P&C customers or not.

Is that a catapult  or a BoltBus ?

I'm conflicted about dinner. Now thinking of cooking the remainder of the steak tomorrow for dinner and instead making pizza tonight (which would also cover tomorrow's lunch).

I believe that is actually a Trebuchet. ;)

May well be - I don't actually see images (just the URLs) when I'm logged in to FT.

^ It seems like a great card.

Do you think such a significant reduction in spending on your Pres Plus card still makes it worth keeping? Please understand that I'm not asking to try and intrude on something that is none of my business, I'm still just curious about the benefits of the card.

Personally, I'm a bit leery about dumping CC rewards in to a program to which they are then locked (such as OnePass). Additionally, I am not sure the benefits beyond the PClub membership are worth the cost of the annual fee above the cost of a standalone PClub membership. Sure you will probably still earn miles worth the extra money you spend, but in the long run, those miles are not guaranteed to be easily used. Plus, with the move to Star, the chances of OnePass miles decreasing in value could be quite high.

Going forward, I will be splitting my charges between the SPG AMEX (where points are not necessarily locked in to SPG) and a Visa that earns cash back (1%-5% based on the merchant).

Interesting question. My plan going forward is to save some cash and buy a lifetime PC membership, at which point I think I may get rid of the card. When I was working for a company that required a decent amount of travel the Avis benefits came in handy but now I am leaning towards National with the better selection of vehicles.

For me, the CO miles are useful only for longhaul travel... The nice thing about the PP card is the Flex EQMs, of which, I have a nice little stockpile.

Think CO will be around in 13 years when you reach the break even point on the lifetime membership? ;) Anything "lifetime" within a poorly run industry just scares me.

Same here, although I am a little bit worried about reward redemptions in the future with CO entering Star and the overall slide of the industry as a whole. For now, I've transitioned from hoarding miles in to thinking about burning chunks of them on longhaul travel each year.

I've moved into a "qualify in odd-numbered years, burn in even-numbered years" model. Of course, my December trip will always be using miles.

So i'm packing with some help from friends and we decide to wash the mountain of laundry from my trip to Paris/Venice as well as my various sheets/linens/etc so everything will be fresh for the new apartment.

We get 3 loads into roughly 10 or so total and the washing machine just gives up. I looked for a note, but it appears it just passed quietly of natural causes between rinse cycles.

A panic trip to Lowes and a surprising $230 later the house now has a new washing machine which is quite snazzy. Way to go scratch and dent. It works really well and my clothes are coming out very clean - and the spin cycle works better so drying takes less time.

I have, sadly, made minimal progress in packing though. :(
