Morning Box. So ready for this day of work to be over so I can hop on the plane and get out of here. This place always depresses me.

Big news of the day — triple murder here in Baton Rouge in the early morning hours. In the same neighborhood where I'm working. Fun stuff.

Dear Boeing,

Please produce a 737 with more than 4000 nm range. Love Be Happy Air.

They did. It's called the 757. ;)

Not really. The 737 was orginally meant to be a short range aircraft. The 757 was meant to be the replacement for the 727. The never produced 757-100 would have had the same seating capacity at the 727 but the airlines wanted bigger. Of course as time went on that bigger was too big and the 757 getting classified as a heavy due to it's vortex (i.e. airport issues) the 757's interest started to decline. So Boeing created the 737-900 which I'd say is the true replacement of the 727-200.

Fun fun.

And the W Scottsdale is also in foreclosure. Though that was not a pleasant experience as a Plat so I'd be happy if it goes away.

I will as soon as I can!

The highlight of my day is fixing this client's screwed up life insurance premium tables. Louisiana's state employees have crap benefits, and their life insurance is ridiculously complicated, and yet pays so little benefit. Fixing this crap will probably take me the rest of the day.

I think they have a property or two in PHX that is either in or close to foreclosure. And it isn't SPG; it's the folks who franchised the W name and paid insane amounts of money for properties that have lost a lot of their value in the last two years. The last story I saw about it before I left San Diego said that SPG was leaving their name on it until they could figure out what to do; I'm kinda wondering how many it will take before SPG starts yanking the franchises to keep their brand from looking bad.

Probably the W Scottsdale that you are thinking of.

The W Honolulu is no longer a W, so I wouldn't be surprised if the Scottsdale and San Diego properties lose the 'W'.

DEQMs posted. Life is good. I feel slightly less peon-like already.

So is the W brand as a whole in trouble or are these just individual properties having problems?

I tend to like Ws.

Its the franchisees that own the properties that are going into foreclosure. Starwood has exposure if they can't maintain the management of the property, but it's greatly limited.

Just those particular ones as far as I know.

There are plenty of 1K's who will line up to denigrate you and take your upgrades solely because they can.

Starwood Capital's buy of Golden Tulip did not include all of the hotels. 20 of the 280 were left to rot.
