What are you buying? Last week I bought UCO, BERIX, and DXKSX.

I'm holding off for a while because I had a big weekend. I found a new apartment with my fiancee while she was intown. We decided I better jump on it before someone else does. Its in Astoria (about a 20-25 minute walk to LGA or 10 minute bus ride). I gave my current roommate notice and have to be out by Feb 1 while the new lease can start any time I choose between now and Feb 1. I'm definitely going to have to take a day off work to move as I am traveling EVERY weekend this month.

One more thing, my fiancee is 2/2 on upgrades for 2009.

Right now I've got a mix of Alcoa (AA), McDonalds (MCD), ADM, GE, Uranium Resources Inc. (URRE), Ford (F), and Boeing (BA).

I've got a bit extra that I can invest when my deposit clears tomorrow, and am looking at Service Corp. International (SCI), Intel Corp. (INTC), ConAgra Foods (CAG), and VMWare (VMW).

Have a look at EPIQ, a player in my industry, ASH and WH amongst others.

I want to agree with you on the artist. But her current age delays that agreement. Give her another year, then :p

Good mix of things. I don't like F and INTC though. Take a look at some dry shippers like DRYS. It's up 70% since I bought it last month but I think its got some room to go. There are also many other good dry-shippers out there with strong balance sheets and with all the cargo sitting at the ports waiting for financing its only a matter of time before these take off (if they can stay in business in the mean time). Also, keep an eye on the Baltic dry index if you do decide to buy these names.

Its a great time to be buying.

Yep. This week I'm going to start buying again in my 401(k), after moving everything to cash (at a nice profit) last year a couple of months before the bottom dropped out.

Any suggestions from the Box on good, reasonably-priced places (say, under $20 per person, no alcohol) for a birthday dinner in Houston?

I rarely eat out in Houston, and the few places that I have eaten at have either closed or would not be "acceptable" for a birthday dinner (i.e., although I personally have no problem going to Chick-Fil-A, I suspect those that have travelled for the birthday celebration would look down on such a choice).

Any suggestions would be appreciated. All cuisines are, ahem, on the table, except for Chinese.

A fun place would be El Meson http://www.elmeson.com/main.html; you should be able to do under $20 per person.

Agree. Interesting mix, but I'd stay away from F and INTC.

Try and capture some of the momentum in the renewable energy sector. FSLR is a tremendous company with a great product with limited exposure (from what I can tell) from the financing mess.

ANA (MAD), no, not the airline, is another one to keep an eye on. They're much more than RE.

I also think RIM(M) is a tremendous buy. The ubiquity of the crackberry is just to strong to ignore and with the decreasing prices you're starting to see them proliferate through lower levels in large organizations.

(I know nothing. Don't listen to me. Don't shoot me when you lose money.)

Portions of the post that previously appeared in this space have been deleted. I would provide you with a reason why, but doing so would likely be against the TOS.

F is a pure gamble. I essentially bet $500 on Red (though it is up 5% from where I bought it last week). :D

I really like your idea of the SCI business but take a look at STON. It's set up as a limited partnership so there are no corporate taxes and the distributions you get are "return of capital." They are also venturing into pet death planing which will either boom or bust. I covered this company in my former life in Houston.

Disclaimer: I own 200 shares and bought at $22.50/share:rolleyes:.

fozz, I edited your PenaltyBox FlightMemory entries to reflect United Express (SkyWest) (rather than United Airlines (SkyWest)), and also to reflect Bombardier on the CRJ-700 listing.

ALCO looks like hope for an EUA on the EWR-CLE-IAH segments has gone out the window: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/conti...16-2009-a.html

Hopefully gate upgrades will get us in the front cabin.

We can only hope. This should be interesting.

Astoria is nice - convenient to midtown and LGA and many good restaurants. If you live near Astoria Boulevard, the subway is not too far, either.
