I had only two hand > snow thrower 9-1-1 calls today. I really just want to ask then "what the hell did you think was going ot happen?"

I was looking at flights down to PTY and it would only sell me seats up front. But, when I click on the seat map there's a ton of seats in back on the morning non-stop out of EWR. What gives?

Also, I really find it hard to believe that every seat between South Florida and NY is taken on the 3rd and 4th of January.

You do realize that the Orange Bowl and the BCS championship are right around those dates right? The former is Jan. 1 and the latter is Jan. 8 also in Miami. Most hotels require multi night stays.

Look at MSY on the 2nd through the 4th for a decent deal.

I found this and thought I would share.

Worst employee No. 9: Pythias Brown, Transportation Security Agent

The story: Brown was allegedly stealing items from checked luggage in the back rooms of the airport in Newark, N.J., where he worked, making off with more than $200,000 worth of travelers' belongings. The stolen goods included a camera belonging to a CNN employee who found it for sale on eBay. Police discovered 66 cameras, 31 laptops, jewelry and more in Brown's home. (Source: Yahoo! Technology)

What a fun night - I had a 2 hour delay on DSM-IAH, I was rebooked on 3 different IAH-EWR flights and lost 3 upgrades on 3 different IAH-EWR flights only to be left with 6E and another delay. Now, we're due in to EWR around 3am. Ho Ho Ho... :)

EDIT: My upgrade cleared - for the 4th time. Now to get the companion upgrade to come through...

I've seen the seat map like that before. It appears to happen when they know they are going to sell out Y, they stop the ability to select your seats in Y. They've sold the tickets to fill Y, but many can't select seat assignments and can't until OLCI opens. I've had that happen to me once on a MCO-EWR flight. Drove me nuts for a few weeks.

At midnight, it is a balmy 1 degree here in CLE, and windy as all get out. I'm glad I'm heading to my toasty bed here shortly.

Couple Things

Saw a white sedan leaving IAH with personalized TX plates - BZE GAL. I wonder if she's a FF on the IAH-BZE flights.

Could I have bought a refundable ticket in Y, gotten a BP, get behind security and get a refund before the flight would have left? I know it is frowned upon... but...

Qualifies in my book. My "rule" on it is that if the delays are sufficient that I'd miss whatever I was going for I can at least ask about it. Sometimes they'll bite and sometimes you need to ask someone else.

Absolutely. You actually can even refund after the departure, but that doesn't matter too much. As for frowning, as long as you're only doing it to abuse the TSA and not CO I don't think there are too many frowns. Just pick a flight that isn't completely booked/oversold if possible.

sfogate Dec 22, 2008 5:24 am

First day back from vacation and it sucked. One canceled flight, four delayed inbound flights and two outbound flights delayed.

Several good things happened: neither flight oversold, SOCC committed to holding several IAH flights so that our delayed passengers could make their connecting flights, no one yellled at me and I got 2 hour of overtime.

I did listen in on a conversation that a Gold member was having with the Elite line. She was playing give me something better than a customer care kit because the flight is delayed. She also said that she would be calling her "connection" in IAH tomorrow for a better deal. She was trying hard but no one was biting, especially after three days of bad weather delays.

Good night Box.

It is pretty f'ing cold here this morning, especially with the wind. :( But I made it into the office so that's not all bad.

I also figured out last night in going through my records for the month that I'm on track for my best month ever for my company. Somewhat surprising, but definitely in a good way.

Yep - extremely cold and windy here as well. It is about 5, with some strong gusts. Glad I don't have to go anywhere for a while :)

Congrats on the good month! There are a ton of good stories out there, but they are buried in the doom-and-gloom media. Oh well....

Is it a trip in vain if your plane veers off....

Ok, I tried, but I couldn't pull the trigger.
