Ugh. I had it all perfectly figured out, I had two weeks on the bench at the end of the year.
That all got thrown out this morning for a "crisis" and now they want me to fly to SF during the holidays. Needless to say, i'm a little cranky. |

Day 2 from Deliverance.
Afternoon meetings wrapped up early, so I got out for a run - was definitely nice and needed. A little cold, but once I warmed up it wasn't too bad. Helped me work through my lunch of pulled pork and baked beans. :o The most random part of my day came from doing an interview with a NY Times reporter on "hassles of carry-on baggage" because of the post I started on FT. If it ever goes to print, and she uses me, I'll link it here. I was very, very kind to CO (in all honesty I haven't witnessed any problems first-hand). In other news, I would like to make an official decree: small people - you win. You've worn me down, I concede that you are the superior group of people and I will never snicker at your little vienna sausage fingers again. You can thank whoever decided it would be great to install shower heads below 6' in hotel rooms (this is something that transcends hotel brands). I really appreciate having the clean crotch, but washing my hair is very difficult. But what finally did me in was taking a leak on the CRJ yesterday. I was wedged in there like a pretzel, my head was literally cocked (no pun intended) sideways so my ear was touching my shoulder. I was squatting about 4", while trying to maintain good aim. After accomplishing that I feel like I should try out for Cirque du Soleil (I already have the Canadian credentials ) So, anyway, short people - please let me have my dignity back and I promise I'll always help you with your bag in the overhead. Truce? Meetings kick back up in 30. -sigh- |

I think a copy of the notarized document should be posted somewhere.
What I forgot to mention about the CRJ bathroom experience was, the graceful ...-first exit because I couldn't turn around. I literally spilled out of the restroom. Poor woman in 15B or whatever that seat was should have received hazard pay for sitting there. Glad I gave you guys an afternoon chuckle with the post. CO 1E, keep fighting the good fight. Just don't kick me in the shins. :o [game on] |

Where's the bench? I hope that it is near a beach. :)

I'm now at two months on the bench... so I am not sure I'll even hear from work again. Hard to say. They do keep paying me, so I'm milking this for as long as I can... LOL

What hotels have showerheads under 6'? I cannot recall having observed such at any of the major chains recently.
For a while I was going to camp out in front of Starwood HQ in HPN to see if I could kidnap one of the oompa loompas on the design team to force them to change their ways. But, alas, I was too busy washing the shampoo out of my hair at home. My ratty arse hotel in TYS (not affiliated ) has one that's about 5'6" up. This hotel, by the way, is freaking fantastic. I had a conversation with my neighbor last night, Peter Gibbens style ("hey, you watching the momography infomercial on Channel 72?") followed by spending 10 minutes figuring out what the random timing dial is on the wall. And what it times. It's actually a suite of sorts, I've affectionately dubbed it the "serenity now suite." Cause every time I walk in, look around, I think to myself "serenity now." |

There's several Starwoods that are guilty of this, and I think a few Hyatts. My ratty arse hotel in TYS (not affiliated ) has one that's about 5'6" up.

Last year I had six weeks on the bench and it was so nice. Since then i haven't had anytime on the bench and that is annoying.
I'm enjoying being at home. Lots of house projects are getting completed. Which is nice.... after 25 full months of weekly travel. |

Have you considered a cruise? Carnival and Royal Caribbean generally have pretty good deals (especially these days, with lots of overcapacity). The kids have nowhere to escape to whilst at sea, so you can let them run loose without worrying (there are also lots of planned activities for teens onboard, but lots of teens  at anything that has been "planned" for them by adults). That leaves you time to hit the casino, spa, pool, or buffet unmolested for several hours. When you get to ports, y'all can plan your own excursions or go on one of the pre-fab ones arranged by the ship.
You'd likely still have to find a puppy-sitter. I don't believe cruise lines allow pets. --No pets on the more consumer-oriented cruise lines. Cunard has a kennel onboard QM2 and the new Queen Victoria IIRC. --Shore excursions are like airline seats: pick well ahead and keep checking. Your particular time slot might get cancelled for low interest. The Cruise Critic folk can help with that...CC is useful if your BS filter is set ultra-high. The CC people also know who the more reputable non-cruise-line excursion vendors are. --Royal Caribbean's food isn't nearly as good as Carnival's. Carnival has 24-hour pizza and Caesar salad on demand. (:D) --SFO has a great 10-day cruise option...Princess sails Mex. Riviera from there. Carnival sails from LGB and SAN as well. |
what about those great half glass doors they insist on using in most European hotels , especially here in Barzelona
Did they run out of glass or ever think about using a shower curtain instead  |

Isn't the Mexican Riviera south of Cancun? I assume the 10-day from SFO goes down the Baja peninsula and then in to the ZIH/PVR area, right?
