Yeah - I read about this earlier this evening. They are apparently buying ATA's LGA slots. Very surprising because they always said the ATC delays in the NY market would be too much of a problem for them.
In any case, I'm not sure I see this having much (if any) impact on CO at EWR. |

Is it just me or is SWA becoming like a Legacy Airline, they now have a business option for better seats and booze (kinda like first), they have gone into airports not previously in their model, and they have international code-shares. What is next lounges?
I agree re: no trouble for CO, but that's only because of the lack of slots. Seven flights a day is nothing for WN. My bet is on MDW and BWI, 4x and 3x each. |

MDW is likely but I'd imagine they'll try and get a FL (maybe TPA with connections to the rest of FL?) destination. I'm not sure there would be much of a (WN) market for LGA-BWI.

I'm not sold on them using those 7 precious flights for leisure flying.

Does anyone have a link for the SWA LGA press release?
I tried searching their website, cant find it. |

I think a bulk of them will definitely be used for MDW. Maybe they'll try HOU as well? I still wouldn't count out the possibility of a few FL flights. With Amtrak and the DL shuttle, I just can't see LGA-BWI being all that successful.

I dont mind flying out of LGA and connecting in IAH, more miles and better upgrade chance :) I hope the fares from LGA drop with WN there.

My mom's flying CO99 EWR-HKG in BF on Thursday. 50 seat AVOD aircraft. 35 booked. Of those, 27 are "upgrades", my mom included. That means only 8 bought a BF ticket or claimed a BF award. The week before Thanskgiving - few business people going to the Far East, I suppose.

CO added EWR-GRU (for $699+) to the list of specials for this weekend. I'm convinced that I've lost my mind because I actually considered going...
There is also a $680+ fare available this weekend if you play with the dates a little. |

The airports not previously in their model thing is because they're running out of airports that do fit the model. The concept of secondary airports to avoid higher fees and ATC issues ran out when they went back to SFO and opened DEN.
I agree re: no trouble for CO, but that's only because of the lack of slots. Seven flights a day is nothing for WN. My bet is on MDW and BWI, 4x and 3x each. As for SFO, that was a few factors. 1) AS decided to start a SFO-SAN service to challenge UA. (Prior to that and after WN left, the fares were up to $800) and WN realized they could be doing those runs instead. 2) SFO became a convenient airport once the BART connection happened and SJC/OAk have progressivley become worse airports to travel through. 3) It's believed that SFO offered some major concessions to bring WN back I'm particularly surprised with WN attempting to go into LGA. It will cause major ripples through their relatively smooth operation. I would have expected them to go into HPN or TTN instead of LGA. It does appear with their recent changes, they are attempting to get more of the legacy business and away from their core... |
