Though I did see a NW 757 parked at C4 yesterday and it looked like it had MX issues. I assumed it was the Browns charter and our local spotters site seems to confirm it. [ www.opshots.net ]

Though CLE spotting isn't exactly phenomenal, imagine what the poor folks at STL must have gone through after AA finished dismantling TWA. To go from 747s to almost all-ERJs and MD-80s in the span of a few years... the horror!

I stayed at a BW in Madrid and it was decent - very clean, great location and well priced. It's amazing that the brand is so conflicted in its quality between the US and Europe.

+1

I've stayed at some great BW's in Europe and the UK.

MR BL called me and said he had a week of vacation plus a personal day to take before the end of the year  I'm sorry - but who doesn't know they have 6 days left???? Anyway, after deciding 2 days would be added to Christmas; 1 to Thanksgiving and a day for him to go Christmas shopping; I said "Let's fly to Nebraska". WHAT WAS I THINKING???? It's December! It's cold! There will more than likely be snow. I hate cold. I hate snow!:confused::mad: I do; however want to go see my best friend and I thought I would have a nice Christmas party for the few people if my office I do like (okay, I'll have it for all of them, but you know). But I do think that I had a severe lapse of sanity. And I went to book the Marriott in Omaha and it was $219! Are they crazy? It's being renovated right now and there is no way I'm paying $219 for it. I've never paid that much for that property. ARGH!

The 747's were almost all at JFK for awhile prior to the aquisition of TW by AA, although they had a few 757's and 767's left at STL.

My mother too refuses to learn to text. There's something fear-inducing about the concept. She used to know how, forgot that I ever did teach her, and now refuses to pick it up again.

Still on the mom-phone thing, she thinks that her cell is for her exclusive outgoing use, and pooh-poohs those (me) who say it should be kept on should you need to be reached. And woe betide the person she calls that misses the call. She has this slick hand maneuver that results in the phone being completely powered down exactly .98 seconds after hitting END. Don't know how she does it, she's got a Razr and they don't shut down that quick.

Hostility on FT? Surely you joke.

If it helps at all, I agreed to spend the week before Christmas in Iowa.

I remember taking an L-1011 from STL to JFK in the mid-90s on my way to MUC on a 241 deal with a friend of mine.

Based on my observations the CLE hub seems to be doing okay in today's turbulent marketplace. Flights are full of both connecting and O/D passengers and we seem to have the right mix of aircraft now that more 739s are coming online. I would like to see more capacity to EWR and IAH, and those 753s are always welcome to the West Coast.

I'm not sure what it was like around the time of acquisition. I distinctly recall seeing 747s at STL when I did HOU-STL on TWA back in the mid-90s.

First I am sorry you have my sympathies, I had to do a summer in Omaha...that is all I will say on that. I do recall there is nice hilton there, but I am sure it will be around the same amount.

The Hilton is very nice; but I'm only Gold with them. There is a new FI and Suites that my parents just stayed at last week and they said it was very nice so I think I'll just book a suite there - it's $100 less and I'm doing one night before going to Lincoln. I lived in Omaha for five years; it's really not that bad as long as you avoid Nov-April ;)

They definitely still operated a 747 or two at STL back then, but by that point, most of the remaining 747 routes involved JFK.

I'm glad I got a chance to ride on TWA before they vanished, even if it was only HOU-STL. I'm ticked that I never got a shot at PanAm. :(
