I stayed at a BW in Madrid and it was decent - very clean, great location and well priced. It's amazing that the brand is so conflicted in its quality between the US and Europe.

I booked my partner and his sister at a BW in Paris late next week that looks quite nice and has great reviews online. It's also a good price and in a really good central location. I've not stayed in any BWs in Europe but have always heard that they are usually a safe bet, and in many cases, quite nice.

Wow. That looks worth a trip to YZF.

Yep. Too bad their Electras and DC-4s are freighters. :(

I'm sure we could talk them into putting us all into crates or something...

The fares up there aren't cheap. Cheapest YYC-YYE fare I've seen is $550++.

Yep. You have to charge high fares when you're flying only 10 people a day on those routes in a gas guzzling 40 year old Fokker.

The Electra is another plane that was still flying in regular passenger service in Alaska into this decade. Unfortunately they're gone now too.

It looks like CO.com is broken. I'm logged-in and short hops are showing actual miles rather than the 500 mile minimum. Hope there isn't an announcement coming.

Or you could go to Turning Stone.

ROC isn't terrible. I always said (when I lived there) that if it wasn't in the snow-belt I really wouldn't mind it. That and the accent. The accent is horrible. It's a combination of everything wrong with the way people can speak.

Maybe I'll enter an igloo building contest to keep myself occupied or something.

Some type of gambling will be on the agenda. We stayed at Turning Stone once and it's very nice except for two problems 1) they don't pay out (I'm a casual gambler, but hell, wall around that casino and I've never seen a jackpot, yet spend 10 minutes in AC on a weekend and you can find one) and 2) it's a dry property (or has been since I was there last). No beer is big lose. We've been playing, but not staying, at Vernon Downs. It's ... rustic ... but the machines are OK and you can get $2 drafts (or for decent beer they have bottles).

And that is exactly what XYZZY and I try to avoid - frightened new users. This should be an open forum where experienced users gently educate rather than scorn new contributors.

Read the FAQ!
Do a search!

People are so used to the do a search line that it has become the standard disclaimer to a new thread.

I've thought about it several times... We could have a Box DO in a chartered DC-3. :D

I have thought about doing a remote MBM3 mini-do someplace fun that includes a fun aircraft flight opportunity. Hmmmm....

Other than the box :p, the CO forum is a much kinder, gentler forum than I remember coming to 6 1/2 years ago when I was looking to make the move to IAH. I was used to the UA forum where the threads were about the way meal orders were taken on board; how to use SWU; the 1K rooms; the 1K lines and Charlie - oh how things change :D

There is a thread about this somewhere... I think it's just a case of lazy developers not checking for Elite status when displaying mileage.

Now that you're an evangelist, you have to be up to task ;)

I find most of the Forums on FT to be quite pleasant. There are a handful (I won't name names) that appear to be outright hostile (eating their own) and xenophobic (likewise for "outsiders").

My Evangelist Welcome Kit implied that it was merely an excuse for getting drunk at 10:30am.

I think it's just the programming they put into place for the end of the 500 mile minimums for non-elites. I would suspect they haven't loaded the code yet for the decision to retain 500 mile minimums for elites.

Given UA's recent announcement of the reinstatement of 500 mile minimums for elites, and making it retroactive, and CO's announcement that they were going to keep 500 mile minimums for elites, I wouldn't worry. They would lose an enormous amount of goodwill with their elite customers if they were to backtrack on the backtrack on 500 mile minimums for elites.

This place is certainly lively the past several days. I wonder what happened? :D
