Nomenclature aside, the Feds wanted control over strategic arteries/transit points for military purposes during the Cold War. IH-45 and IH-37 serve a strategic purpose, by allowing for efficient, fast flow of materiel from major ports/ship channels near the Mexican border to the interior of the country.

At least... this is the theory I've heard bandied about. Could be urban legend, but it makes sense.

I read that link earlier from someone else. I fully believe that MCI gets high marks because there is never a line for security. This is because the airport was designed to meet the needs of 1955 and so there are six to eight seperate checkpoints in each of the three terminals. Aside from that, when you land at one end of Terminal B and the bag pickup is at the other end, it is worlds of :rolleyes:.

There's development all the way out to the Trinity River bridge. Over years of traveling to Anahuac semi-regularly (:rolleyes:), I noticed a startling amount of development on the East side. Those people are all totally screwed if a hurricane bigger than Ike rolls in right around Freeport.

Yeah, I didn't consider that in my calculations. I used Google's satellite view to see where stuff stopped, but some of those images are upwards of five years old.
