I think you'll have to start measuring further than Baytown now. Since 99 has been started and there are cars running on it now, the area has definitely grown. Wallisville is probably a good end point.

Where 59 struggles now is north of town and the ditch right before downtown.

P.S. - Roads, city planning, etc. really interest me. I love just staring at maps.

Actually, it stretches up to College Station now. I actually know people who live here and work in Houston. that's just messed up!

Nah...but I love me some interstate highways. I actually wrote a paper on the history of the program in 11th grade as part of a scholarship contest for the local branch of the Public Works union. It was a guaranteed win as I was the only entrant (friend's father was the guy running the show). I won the state level, too, which I understand actually had multiple entries. :D

I put a resume in at AAA to be the hotel inspector for Arizona. Mentioning that at Dupont (in an interview-correct context while discussing Diamond standards) earned me a reply of :eek: - I don't think they saw that coming.

I just learned even numbered interstates are supposed to have exit numbers west to east. ;)

There is a rule for the 3-digit interstates. They are spurs or loops on existing. Even numbers are supposed to be loops and odd numbers spurs. The one main exception I know of is 495 in NY which is a spur out into Long Island rather than a loop.

I think that 540 is valid. Here in Houston it's I-610.
