If you feel your account has been unfairly closed, consider filing a complaint with the Consumer Protection Financial Bureau:

CFPB's complaint form: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/

When someone reports an account closure here, a lot of the same questions get asked. It might be useful to answer some questions in advance. This could help figure out what happened or how to proceed:
  1. Did you transfer UR points to someone with a different address? Different last name?
  2. Did you sell UR points to someone?
  3. Approximately what percentage of your charges earned less than 5x points in the past 12 months?
  4. Did a Chase or non-Chase bank recently close one of your credit cards?
  5. Are you using up a large percentage of your credit line on all Chase and non-Chase credit cards?
  6. Is your total credit line with Chase much higher than with other banks?
  7. Did you apply for many credit cards or other forms of credit in the past 2 months? ("Many" may be hard to define.)
  8. If you have a Chase checking account how much did you typically deposit in money orders per month, if any?
  9. Did you recently start spending a lot more with Chase than in typical months?
  10. Is your monthly balance frequently close to your credit limit?
  11. Approximately what percentage of spending was on gift cards this year?
  12. How much of your bill do you typically pay using WM or KMart bill payment if any?
  13. Do you have a Chase mortgage or other account that might be profitable to Chase?
  14. Has your credit score or credit profile changed recently? As in: significantly more debt, more open credit lines, or a large drop in your credit score?

we do MS on other cards, but never high balance. paying them off before the closing date on all cards. Haven't applied for any new card for last 6 month, except one card from Chase on April before 5/24 rule kicks in.

Would a large balance in my Chase checking help to limit risk of cancellation?

I currently have $200k in a non-chase bank account that's reimbursements for work expenses. I'm paying off the work expenses by cycling a CFU with a $7500 limit. Each time I pay it off I pay from the non-chase bank account to the chase credit card accounts. Technically no MS, but habits very similar to MS...

Have a mortgage with Chase as well.

In preparation for knowing this spending bonanza was coming I've opened up SW Biz, CSP, and Ink in the last 5 months. I've had continual spend on the SW biz, limited spend on the CSP outside of the original spend, and minimal spend on the just opened Ink.

I've also opened up Amex Platinum, SPG Biz and SPG Personal so plenty of credit inquiries in the last 6 months.

None of my spend has been in bonus categories, 5x shipping, etc.

I started at the beginning of this thread and was terrified I was going to lose the Chase UR points I've already gained. Now I'd just like to avoid account closure. If so I can ship these to United, SW, and Singapore and not lose any sleep over it.

Paying from a real bank account is good, having your mortgage there is also good.

Its the random, unable to trace from payments that lead to shutdowns. IMO.

Far from true. Theres a lot of us out there that have always made payments from real bank accounts. I myself have never touched billpay services. Also mortgage does not help one way or another. They will still shut you down.

You could have $200k+ in assets with Chase, a mortgage, etc. But if they deem you a liability they will sever ties in a heartbeat.

I got a letter from Chase informing me my UR Rewards is suspended. I transferred the UR points to my friend and I think that trigger this issue. That is my fault. Now how do I explain Chase I did not sell any points but I transferred only to my business partner?

Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Is your business partner an authorized user on your Ink Plus card? There are only certain types of transfers that are allowed. And between business partners, I believe your friend would have to be an AU on your business card.

Why would you need them to tell you? I'm sure you already know. Even I know. I just took a quick look at about 20 of your previous post and 90% of them dealt with manufactured spending. How much were you doing a month and how were you doing it?

Looks like you may have been doing WM billpay? Did you do so with Chase? How much per month/for how long? Lots of 5x spending on your Ink too?

I just spent quite a while, last evening/night and this morning, reading most of this thread.

It seems that what causes the shutdowns is:

1) High spend with respect to income. Someone reported doing about $400k in MS on a < $200k income. This looks like someone who's money laundering, and has money coming from unknown sources.

2) Using billpay services. WM billpay is probably typically used by poorer households who only spend $2k or less per month on their CCs, carry debt, etc. When Chase sees WM billpay being used to pay off CCs with balances of $20k+, it raises eyebrows. Money laundering? Someone with a $100k CL with spending habits like a poor person?

3) Unreasonably high spend at specific stores. No one needs $40k worth of office supplies in 3 months who's not associated with a very large company, so the only thing you could really be doing is buying cash-like assets (GCs). Chase probably doesn't like this for two reasons. First and foremost, it probably matches what a lot of fraudsters do with CCs when they steal them, so their systems wouldn't be able to automatically detect fraud as easily if the card is stolen. This increases their risk of keeping you as a customer, because banks typically eat the fraud costs. Second, you could be trying to cash out your credit line before declaring bankruptcy, which they obviously don't like either, because it puts them on the hook for the amount charged.

Having a *Chase* mortgage seems like it could help, as if you go bankrupt, they could probably seize your house and sell it to recover the money, provided that you have a low enough LTV on your loan.

High travel/dining spend seems less likely to raise red flags, as it cannot be converted into cash later on. Still, there were months when I've had $10k+ in business travel expenses on my CSP. But I also have a Chase checking account, and my employer direct deposits into it, which allows Chase's computers to see that this was just business travel spend and my employer was reimbursing me for it; I'm not someone who's trying to do a big trip and then declare bankruptcy so that the bank has to pay for it.

I don't think so. A mortgage is a secured loan - the house is the security. But only for that specific loan.

A credit card is an unsecured loan. Thus the higher interest rate.

There's no way a bank could use security for one loan to pay another.
