There's no contradiction. It's a privilege given by CX to CX Silvers (Ruby), not OW Ruby in general.

About to head PER-HKG-JFK and back via YVR on CX, so it would be a pleasant surprise, indeed.
Yes it is ONLY a CX benefit and ONLY applicable on CX flights (not 100% sure on codeshares, but if there is CX lounge and you have a CX flight no, you mgiht get in)

in PER Cx will print you an invitation to the QF Lounge
for HKG you will use the Pier or Wing J class

JFK you get access to the BA Terrace

Again, you will get invitation cards! Some people here say the cards are useless, but I think it is a great way to ensure you won't get refusal of entry by the BA lounge dragons.

MPO is it seems tougher to qualify - I would just about make it this year (160K BIS miles in J/F - it would be close) as opposed to 4xqualify on QF and 2xqualify on AA...

I will still keep enjoying the Wing/Pier and every other lounge I can - and I hope you get to experience other great lounges like the new SYD F lounge.
What I meant was that you need to get
30K Q miles to get to SL
then ANOTHER 60K to get to GO
and then ANOTHER 120K to get to DM

For QF to get 1400SC, it doesn't get reset to 0 once you attain Silver or Gold.

So it is actually pretty easy and I heard if you plan a DONE4 correctly, you can get 1400SC in 1 trip.

I did goto the MEL and SYD Qf lounges. I do like it very much (if you read my report it gives a detail comparison to CX).

But the AA lounges in the US is just incomparable and I still stand by my comment re: CX's NRT lounge

OW rules governs what benefits an OW airlines should provide a passenger who has status on another airline. However, each airline can have their own rules for their own frequent flyers.

CX provides a few additional lounge access benefits for MPC members:
* CX SL - one person only.
* CX GO - when transiting from a CX long haul arriving in HKG to a flight to Mainland China. I do not find where I saw this - not in MPC web page.
* CX DM/DM+/IN - (i) 2 guests; (ii) access to business lounge when traveling on any non-CX/KA/OW airline.

I've been to both T4 and T1 F class lounge. ALthough it is much better than the any AA lounges (incl FLs) for a F class lounge it is still substandard comparing to LH/CX/QF's f Class lounge. Also considering LHR is BA's hub. Lets hoep the new T5 Galleries will make a difference.

I have reasonable confidence that despite this list of op-up priorities, CX would prioritise you before me, bensyd. And actually, I'd have no problem with that.

I would have a problem with the BA EuroGold who's a very occasional CX flyer being prioritised above a CX Gold like me, and I think the indicative ranking gives me some (small) assurance that it won't happen.

I do agree that op-ups are an extra benefit to status, and that they aren't something people should get too upset about.

I am pretty new to international travel and was wondering about the Op-Up's discussed in this form. I recently joined the Marco Polo Club because of a trip I am on. LAX-HKG-CEB-HKG-SIN-HKG-LAX. I am confused on how the op up works.... Does CX upgrade people, day of departure, based on the list that was stated by the first post? If so, logically speaking, J & F would be full going out with upgrades freeing up more space in Y?

The reason I ask is that my flight from LAX-HKG did not have a full J class and HKG-CEB had maybe 8 people in it, A330. I was not a member of the Club at the time but now wondering what are my chances if the same situation arises on the way? Currently in CEB and still need to complete the CEB-HKG-SIN-HKG-LAX part of my trip.

Thanks!

No, if Y is not overbooked, the chance of op-up is almost nil except for, possibly, birthdays. I flew six sectors in the two weeks and did not get any op-up.

That makes more sense. Does CX offer discounted day of departure upgrades at X cost? I am currently booked in Y and would like to upgrade, if available to J on my HKG-LAX trip. Sitting in Y for that long is not to bad until the person in front of you reclines their seat and you suddenly can't move.

CX might not upgrade, but gives out very good seats to OW elites, IMHO. Dragonair managed to get me a nice bulkhead seat, my preferred special meal and perfect service in about 45 minutes after my original flight was cancelled.

No, CX calculates the fare difference between your ticket and a full fare J ticket.

If you're lucky.

In June I tried to find out how much it would be for my J ticket to upgrade to F, and they weren't able to do it. It was a TA-issued ticket issued in the U.S. with an AA segment after CX, and the staff in the Pier J lounge couldn't do anything -- they were trying to find out from their US office what the deal was, but there was no response for the 2 hours I was there.

Actually in BKK, sometimes they do have special deals at checkin for J or F class Upgrade. Forgot the cost, but it is a fixed fee and not a recalc of the tix.

I was offered a similar deal J-F from LAX. Since J and F is always virtually empty on transpacific flights I can't imagine why CX would not want to do something like this. Who's gonna spend 5K in the first place?
