Some airlines allow pilots to seat people in business class, and those passengers are mostly staff/ID90, but this is unofficial and done when there are seats available in business class - not typically an op-up scenario.

I think that is far too high for people travelling on ID90 tickets!
AA has so many EXPs (and PLATs) that I am not looking forward to op-up.

Agreed, they should be ranked between Silver and Ruby.

I really can't see any good logic to doing this.

On the other hand, $ paying passengers like you and I, diamond or not, can't really complain since op-up is not part of the carrier's contractual obligations.

Sounds like an oxymoron. Wasn't ID90 are basically stand-by only (or get booted off first as chrisrep mentioned)? If so, how can stand-by only ticket co-exist with op-up, which requires overbooking thus no seats available??

Or perhaps they refer to type of ticket that can be preconfirmed?

Does anyone know if this new revised op-up policy takes into account ticket fare class? For mileage upgrades Y-J after oct 15th its YBHK only, so would that apply to op-ups as well or are op-ups status-based?

I don't remember exactly, but I thought Invitation used to be above Diamond before ? now in this new list Invitation is somewhat "downgraded" and is now considered same level of upgrade priority as Diamond ? so e.g. now maybe a Diamond on a full J fare would get upgraded before an Invitation on a D fare ? (assuming within each upgrade "tier", fare class is considered to determine upgrade priority; I don't really know what exactly are used as tie-breakers within each "tier")

Just to comment on that order..

my very first CX flight EVER was in 2004. I was instance # 12 (ie nobody) and was upgrading from J to F.

I suspect that CX staff do whatever suites them at the time.

I am an airline employee so please let me take a stab at this.

You buy id90 Y (90% off Y fare + taxes..not always cheap) but there is no Y left. They will seat you in available J or F. So Y may be not overbooked , just full and the ID90 travel will get whatever seat remains.

of course, in this situation...another way to handle it could be: upgrade the CX Silver or oneworld Emerald/Sappire/Ruby in Y to J and then give the Y seat to the ID90 Y pax, or the ID90 Y pax be given the choice to "upgrade" to an ID90 J ticket (is it possible at the spot) ?

But the way according to this revised op-up list might be easier - because the ID90 pax would be standing by until like 40 minutes before departure, and now instead of having to upgrade the elite pax at the gate/lounge + give a Y boarding pass to the ID90, now just need to give a J boarding pass to the ID90 directly and no more hassle at the gate/lounge.

CX has the system to op-up at the counter, lounge or gate. It is not quite a lot of hassle. It does make the employees feel good that the company seems to take good care of them. Of course, the side benefit will be reducing the hassle.

As I mentioned in the previous post, some airlines allow pilots to seat ID90 passengers in business class. I am not sure about CX, but CX may also put that in the system to minimise the gray area.

IMHO all non-rev = Y seats only period end of policy. Sure buy into J or F but no op-ups for any.
