HK Financial Secretary Paul Chan specifically highlighted good load factors on the RUH flight as well in a recent blog post; not sure he would straight up lie about it vs. just not mention it if not true.

Interesting if few of those pax are from HK though!

Overall transit passengers contribute half of the CX’s traffic. It is very normal that you see more faces from outside Hong Kong.

also, routes hong kong is in 24-26 september , so maybe a lot of new routes (including some to HKG) would be announced. maybe cathay would announce routes or frequnecy increase at that time

its just a rumor, but AA is maybe gonna announce a comeback to HKG at that time as well

To my knowledge, the rumour is false.

It seems to have arisen to how AA is flying their 777-300ER planes to Hong Kong to maintenance checks.

7 of the 14 frequencies from HK to KZ will be granted 5th freedom. Hypothetically, if CX were to fly HKG-ALA-SKD (Samarkand, Uzbekistan), does it require the HK-UZ bilateral to permit 5th freedom operation to allow the second leg? Or would the new HK-KZ alone suffice?

This is probably the lowest of all priorities, but there's no operator between Almaty and Samarkand at the moment. This could be an interesting proposition for multi-stop tour operators from Hong Kong and Japan.

Relevant that HK and Uzbekistan just signed an MoU about establishing a direct route then. The said to be preferred carrier on that route is HK Airlines though.

The thing is HX didn't have 330 left if they decided to launch such services...... (or reduce YVR/SYD frequency)

Appreciate this is a CX forum so I'll just be quick.

HX is an absolute embarrassment. Other than being a useful conduit for the former HNA Group to remit their surplus abroad, there's absolutely no points for its existence.

4 different types of seats across their narrow body fleet (ranging from a Y150 to Y180 configuration, ex-Starflyer and Lucky Air to ex-Tigerair and China Eastern). IFE doesn't work, with no guarantee of hot meal despite advertising its resumption everywhere. Farcical. I'd rather have HB as the second carrier in Hong Kong. At least they have a clearer brand identity and a witty social media team.

Seattle resumes effective March 30 2026

Seattle announced from 30 March 2026 with 5 weekly flights

Cathay Pacific returns to Seattle with five non-stop return flights per week

majorpuppy Sep 21, 2025 9:13 pm

guess the rumors were right after all. how after all this time there is still A359s to use? regional routes likely have no long haul aircraft at this point

dont know can CX survive the bloodbath there, load factors might not be that amazing. but then there is a load of transit potential, and its stronger than MNL/ TPE so maybe it would work.

maybe this is also a direct target on DL's new flights and AS.

The schedule seems to mainly accommodate for the demand from India.

What a comeback! I'm surprised the timings aren't midnight ex-HKG departure / evening in-SEA arrival / midnight ex-SEA departure / early morning in-HKG arrival though; which seems to work better to feed connections at HKG and also help O&D pax maximize a full day at both ends. Guess those slots are hard to get back after losing them.
