cause CX incompetence has destroyed the Aviation business in HK.
Time to open it right up so more competent players can establish themselves and return HKG back to what it was. Hong Kong's economic strength is apparently weaker than Singapore's, so it is unrealistic for Cathay Pacific to catch up with Singapore Airlines. |

CX needs planes urgently.
Or the HK government should provide full access to ME3 to start 5th freedom flights from HK since they have better fleet planning. |

I do not think ME3 has much interest to expand 5th freedom routes in HK further.

I wonder if any slight chance for CX to do TAS. The URC arrival time works well for Almaty self connection, but not for Uzbek.

URC to daily is highly possible. CX may only have capacity to add regional routes at the moment, unless reducing frequencies to other long haul destinations.

Xinjiang boasts a wealth of magnificent natural scenery, with Tianshan Lake (Heavenly Lake) a must-see destination. Hong Kong airlines plan to increase direct flights to Xinjiang to daily flights, attracting overseas travelers to transit through Hong Kong. Before you, steep and rugged slopes stretch out before you, and in the distance, snow-capped peaks rise. The turquoise lake, like a piece of emerald embedded in the mountains, creates a scene reminiscent of a "paradise on earth." Tianshan Lake, a national geological park located in Urumqi, Xinjiang, is a renowned tourist destination in Xinjiang, attracting numerous visitors. Ms. Zhang, a Jiangxi tourist, said, "It's beautiful, and the air is fresh. (What do you think of Xinjiang's tourism resources?) They're excellent, very rich. We felt the food was good, and there were plenty of activities. It was fun and worth a visit." Mr. Huang, a Jiangxi tourist, said, "The negative oxygen ions, including the Tianchi Lake and Tianshan Mountain, are fantastic. It's snowing, too, and we're thrilled." Up in Tianshan, besides walking along the wooden plank road and enjoying the scenery, you can also, like me, buy a wishing plaque, write down your wish, and stay here. Revisiting tourists noted that Xinjiang's cultural and tourism facilities and transportation links have become more comprehensive in recent years. Mr. Ye, a Guangzhou tourist, said, "The facilities have improved a lot. There's a cable car. We didn't have one before, but now there is one. Xinjiang is so beautiful, it's spectacular." In April of this year, a local airline launched a direct flight to Urumqi, Xinjiang, with flights every Thursday. After operating for over six months, passenger traffic has been good, and they are considering increasing the frequency. Tong Wai-pong, Public Affairs Director of Swire Group, said: "Winter is expected to be the off-season, but I've heard Xinjiang is keen to promote skiing, and Hong Kong people also enjoy skiing. I think it's a viable option. Many of my friends have mentioned starting to travel to Xinjiang, both in the south and north, especially during the summer holidays, with many groups and individuals heading to Xinjiang. We also have routes to Southeast Asia, and many people travel to Xinjiang via Hong Kong, so we think we can increase flights. Our biggest hope is to achieve a daily flight." Tong Wai-pong also mentioned that cargo flights between Hong Kong and Xinjiang are also operating frequently, hoping to leverage cold chain technology to transport more Xinjiang fruits and agricultural products through Hong Kong to destinations around the world. |

Is there really the demand for daily URC tho? I feel like there isn't the demand for the flight, considering the times

The demand is quite good and the load factor of CX's URC is very high. URC attracts lots of HK locals but also quite a few tourists from Southeast Asia benefitting from the visa-free policy.

I took URC - HKG twice (summer season) this year. Biz cabin all full. A good mix of transit (TW, SEA), HK local and Xinjiang local.

Guess CX just found itself a brand new route that actually worked out. Its probably heavily subsidized, so CX should be banking a lot out of the route. Probably explains why URC is going to daily.
1) the widely-spread Japanese earthquake rumors make a lot of HK locals travel to other destinations, and many of them divert to Mainland China. (also explain why UO is adding more flights to South Korea) 2) Chinese government rolled out visa-free policy to major Southeast countries, such as Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, and many of them can speak Mandarin and Xinjiang is one of their top destinations Even before this year, China Southern already launched URC-HKG route and they deployed widebody aircraft on this route in the peak season. I will say CX's URC going daily may happen very soon. |

I personally would have presumed most of the URC demand would have originated from Xinjiang locals who are living overseas (or in HK) and CX serves a pretty direct option to go back home. |
