As of now, seems November 30th 2024 is the last day one can ticket HKG-Colombo.

Any intel on when this service will be updated in the GDS?

I had that issue with the booking of a DONEx for Feb 2025 travel. Travel agent in CMB said mid August...
An extra US$125 in fees for wandering

I really wonder what the CX load factor and profit would be if they allowed customers to book in advance like every other airline competitor.

Easily 326%. They should get right on this.

they probably dont know if they are in business so far out :D

disclaimer: yes i have grudges on how CX operates in recemt years having seen the glory days and i vote with my wallet. i fly them on award or dead cheapo ex XXX to ensure minimum profit goes to them from mysel.

True. Wanting to book for January 2024 (CHINESE/Lunar New Year after all!!) isn’t exactly an unreasonable wish of mine :D

The Russian airspace restrictions could be in place for years. I think a reevaluation of the situation in mid-2025 is optimistic. Western airlines will be banned from Russian airspace as long as Russian ones are banned from Western airspace, which in turn is as long as there are still Russian armed forces on Ukrainian territory. If Trump wins in the fall, there may be some sort of deal soon to "resolve" the Ukraine war, if Kamala wins there won't be, which means the conflict could drag on for a good while yet.

Turning this thread back to route resumptions, Cathay and HK Airlines today signed MOUs with "Cambodian counterparts" during the HK government push for business in Southeast Asia amid a pledge to increase flights.

https://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/...gtype=homepage

Ronald Lam said that Cathay would increase flights to Phnom Penh from five to seven days a week from late October and was looking to increase even further there next year, as well as said they would "consider" the reestablishment of Siem Reap service (the HK Express route was cut in 2020).

HK Express will launch new service to Phu Quoc, Vietnam in Q4 this year; while CX will increase the frequency of PNH in Cambodia flights to 1 daily.

is it just me that it feels like all the new route feels more politically driven where cathay is acting like a Chinese State Enterprise for th benefit of motherland, as opposed to making a strictly commercial path as a publically listed firm.

or they just dont want to compete with others

the government did force CX to open RUH, but in this case, there is a large SE Asia population in HK and transit potential, I think CX would have increased frequencies there anyway even if there wasn't that signing, as theyre are not back to pre covid yet.

the frequency increases to austraila, north America, and Europe this winter for sure are not political (as well as CNS)
