It is simple math.
The 2025 number is a false number that includes HK Express.
The 2019 number does not include HK Express.
Looking at their leet plan.
CX will have less widebodies than CX/KA did it 2019 until at least the year 2027.

CX reports UO lost HK$73m in 1H 2024 https://www1.hkexnews.hk/listedco/li...171.pdf#page=5

I was scrolling and on the CX Destinations wikipedia, ADL is listed as resuming 2 Jan 2025. Did I miss something? Assume its just wikipedia being random?

I think it's premature. There was a story about a possible ADL resumption in a local Adelaide paper last month (https://www.adelaidenow.com.au/subsc...ment-1-NOSCORE) but it explicitly said not confirmed. The link on Wikipedia points to a Cathay website accessed 2022 when it definitely wasn't flying to ADL, and that site as it exists today only lists Adelaide as a codeshare. I wouldn't fully trust it even if reported until it's scheduled.

UO is expanding Cathay Group capacity to Penang with its own daily starting November:

CX already flies the route as well.

No surprise, couldn't really be much worse for both pax & crew
Seems like they have a spare plane during late hours & want to just shove it somewhere

Was recently on the CX evening flight from CGK with a similar timing. I suppose one logic is some people might want a red eye e.g. to maximize a workday or weekend in a destination and to be back at work the next morning after trying to sleep on the plane. Worked slightly better on the 5h haul from Jakarta than it would on the 4h length of this flight though.

Could also simply be part of what some see as the poor treatment of some SE Asian routes, though.

If thats the case, putting the red-eye back from Osaka they had pre-COVID back would have been a good use? Can't speak on yield but would definitely be able to fill the plane.

also to give people flying to / from Jakarta a connection to the morning hub of departures from HK. Also so CX can have the aircraft back in HK to operate a morning flight!

UO currently serves 2, 3, and 5. If 1 and/or 4 return, they also seem like good UO candidates.

I wish they would. I mean it’s not a bad idea to engage UO on these low premium routes, but not everyone would like to fly on LCC, especially the status pax. At least that is one reason I’m trying to avoid UO and choose CX or other OW members instead.

UO has or would have monopolies on all of these routes apart from CNX, BUT all of them have aggressive LCC competition. Sure, people can (and do) pay premiums for nonstop service, but 150% of Jeju Air fares presumably sell better than 400%. CX route planners have actual data on this stuff.

really sad that CX's not returning to Taichung by CX.
UO's time is not good for passengers to connect to EU/USA in a good time slots....
The worst part, with UO, you cannot use OW advantages... such as extra luggage....
This is really a big no for me.....
