This is what wikipedia has to say about India: "According to a 2021 report by the Pew Research Center, India has roughly 1.2 billion lower-income individuals, 66 million middle-income individuals, 16 million upper-middle-income individuals, and barely 2 million in the high-income group. According to The Economist, 78 million of India's population are considered middle class as of 2017, if defined using the cutoff of those making more than $10 per day, a standard used by the India's National Council of Applied Economic Research.[9] According to the World Bank, 93% of India's population lived on less than $10 per day, and 99% lived on less than $20 per day in 2021.[10]".

Granted the stats are a little out of date (I am too lazy to dig any further) but there are less high income Indians than there are people in Hong Kong and their standard of middle class is probably not even enough to buy you food in HK.

Variflight, one of China's top flight tracking apps, has posted a tentative schedule for HKG-URC. Interestingly, this is one of the first CX's mainland flight departing from HKG around midnight.

CX998 HKG-URC 0130-0700
CX997 URC-HKG 1015-1520

However, please take it with a grain of salt, as it is not officially announced yet.

* For those of you that aren't aware, Xinjiang time is unofficially 2 hours behind Beijing Time, so that's a 5a arrival.

That is a very good point. I heard that the usual business hour in XinJiang is from 10 AM to 8 PM.

They refer to everything except transportation schedules in local time (so business hours actually are 8 to 6 for them...and, even the most generous hotels will ding you for an extra night if you show up at 0530).

Sounds like a good way to utilise the regional fleet with an overnight flight.

Good,
HKG can retreat to a regional city status based on their silly wikipedia articles
Dubai and Singapore make millions of the millions of high income indians that traverse in and out of India.

I guess LH, SQ and EK are fools to send some of their most premium heavy aircrafts to BLR/BOM.

The idea that these tiny japanese cities have more demand than cities like Seattle /Bangalore etc is only because CX can't compete with SQ or ME3.

In fact there is greater capacity to BLR than HKG from LH....

I wish I had more recent data, or more sources, but I'm not currently working in a research capacity, so I take what I can find from the common internet. What does the SCMP article (paywalled) say specifically about Europe?

ETA: Thank you to the forum member who privately shared the SCMP article with me. I thought it was a decent read, especially based on the paper's current standards; I was hoping they'd offer multiple sources, or at least a single source more useful than TravelEx data, though.

China arrivals in Europe in 2019 were 3.39 times that of 2023.

Per CXagents notice to Taiwanese TA a few minutes ago,

So this means they will use one of those A330-300 without premium economy (so regional) but with flat-bed J, so 33E or 33J. But who knows, maybe they can use the new 33A (ex-KA) and claim that the flight has flat-bed J, too, just not every J is a flat bed.

The inaugural flight is definitely 33J though.

Such a strange place to send a good plane. I was actually shocked to see it wasn't a UO route. Any theories as to why? (I've been to URC a few times and it's always 737s and 320s, similar to other tier 2 and 3 airports in China.)

actually facts?
Since you use wikipedia.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List...by_household_i
Let us just look at the USA.

They have the highest average income and there are 4.5 million of them.

You ignore the facts of actually airlines like SQ , EK etc that dominate India and make larger profits than CX....
