UO seems to be in a full blown expansion mode, despite the loss. I guess it is just trying all kind of markets and see which one sticks.
Or they are just taking advantage of the HK Airport's new flight incentive.

Awful for hk traveller , but good for korean traveller to HK or transfer at hk airport.

I was wondering about this. SK travel to HK is on the up, but I haven't heard about HK interest in these provincial SK cities the same way people are interested in provincial Japan. Could these flights actually wind up carrying more Korean customers?

There has also been discussion about UO yields being down because of overcapacity. Wonder how much these will cannibalize from UO/CX Seoul and Busan traffic.

It's good for HK travellers too on the outbound. Definitely enough time to have dinner and still go home and grab your bag before going to the airport.

i believe HK'ers are not that interested in SK compared to japan as flight time is similar, and the politics and issues there are pretty bad now. (not too sure about that). with these times possibly its for south koreans more.

I'm surprised UO doesn't codeshare with CX.... if they did the CX network would get a lot bigger and more transit traffic equals higher load factor. i always thought some of UO's passengers are from CX transit traffic.

Koreans love red-eye flights... If you look at FT24 at midnight, you’ll see a batch of Korean planes between Korea and Southeast Asia

Not just SE Asia. The Jeju/Jin/TWay/Air Busan flights ex-HKG all leave at 1/2am.

Honestly CX is missing a lot of revenue by not putting it's code on the UO flights and selling the seats for a higher CX level price but with the same perks as CX economy.

CX does put its code on most UO flights to destinations it does not serve frequently. The CX code can only be priced in conjunction with a CX prime connecting flight, though.

in fact most planes to ICN from Korean airlines depart midnight. KE even has a A380 on one of them. while most HK airlines flights to regional business/ holiday destinations leave at the morning, so that's probably the busiest time for HKG.

These after midnight flights to ICN, more often than not, get delay for one hour or more, so they end up leaving 2/3am.

Seems like we got a taste of the eagerly-awaited HKG-BHX possibility!

Correct and also applies to UO CRK-HKG and then US bound CX flights here's what that looks like.

Wild that United will now operate Adelaide direct from SFO before CX gets there:

https://onemileatatime.com/news/unit...-city-flights/

Imagine this is Australian subsidies through and we'll see how long it lasts.

Also, CX will have competition to BKK and SGN from United running fifth freedom routes from HKG! Crazy.

CX will now also have to navigate lower cargo revenue as Trump tariffs hit China and HK hard especially with another shot at ending the de minimis exception. Hope it doesn't impact routes/frequency...

And in other news, UO announced yet another mainland destination: Changzhou
