Is buying second hand consistent with traditional CX business practice?

They have, though, done this previously, e.g. purchasing a few ex SQ 744s and then in 2018 with a few ex EK 773s to replace the last of the 777-200s.

Cathay has already bought 5 B777-300 from Emirates in 2018 to 2019, now as registrations B-HNS, B-HNU, B-HNV, B-HNW, B-HNX.
Wonder that Cathay should do the same for solving insufficient B777-300ER planes due to lease expiry.

pretty insane considering airasia just left the route, another route UO has managed to kick foreign competitors out of.

i guess transit traffic is strong, something AK didn't have.

Wonder whether UO will launch BKI and kick AK out of this route too.

And in the 80s with Eastern Airlines' Tristars. I remember Tony Tyler waxing lyrical over the money they generated when he was asked about the SQ 747 purchase at CX's Christmas party.

Rumors of CX resuming SEA later this year, not sure how accurate the rumor is.

love it if true, but I shouldn’t get my hopes up.

transiting YVR/SFO/TPE/NRT/ICN is a pain for me at the moment to get to HKG.

Dragonair used to fly this. Not sure if Cathay Dragon ever did.

I don't think they have a choice at this stage.

Hope AS will come too, at some point.

How about Cathay to launch non-stop to Las Vegas (LAS), Istanbul (IST), Abu Dhabi (AUH), London Gatwick (LGW), Vienna (VIE), Jeddah (JED), Cairo (CAI), Dalian (DLC), Harbin (HRB), Hanoi (HAN)

CX already goes to Hanoi.

Would love this + if they added on a codeshare with AS to RDM it would make my life so much easier vs. 2 itineraries every 6 weeks flying to HKG.

Hoping CX reinstates the 2x/daily PEN-HKG route, which used to run pre-COVID under KA.
Right now, it's 1x/daily, and only on specific days.

The early AM departures ex-PEN help w/flight connections headed state-side... which typically leave in the afternoons ex-HKG.

wonder why you always put a list of mostly unprofitable routes for CX to launch....

CX doesn't have a lot of planes anymore ,and route planning and capacity needs to be smart, this applies to all airlines around the world

and if CX resumes SEA somehow, they are entering a bloodbath market, I still think its unlikely to resume.
