I certainly hope they don't go all 77W since 350s are nicer.
But I think the question may be answered by looking back at the history of the route post-Covid. There were moves toward all-77W and rumors about LGW, but they ultimately didn't pan out. It's been busy when I've taken it but I've heard it could lag a bit outside school holiday times and the current configuration is probably optimized to avoid any empty seats that might come about with an expansion. |

I think they have cut 330s to Japan a lot. I've had two flights dropped from 330 to 320 so far this summer. Not exactly thrilled given the only reason I pick them is for the 330 J. The August days I took a look at last night didn't even have any 330 to NRT and some days only one flight with 320 J, rest were Y monoclass 320s or 321s. Basically turning into HB. A bit dire...

Yup. That would be 77 slots for CX and 14 slots for HX.
From NW25, CX service to Australia would be (28+21+14+14=77): 4 Daily SYD 3 Daily MEL 2 Daily BNE 2 Daily PER HX service to Australia would be (7+7=14): 1 Daily SYD 1 Daily MEL Still, HX is downsizing its 333 fleet, and, as the news said, HX's SYD service will be reduced to 4 weekly. We would see after NW25, if the unused slot will be moved to CX or even given to CX for additional service/ 1 Daily to WSI (FYI: WSI is inside the cap). From the fleet now, I am guessing PER might go down to A330 for CX's Australia service to free up more A350. I am still waiting for year-round service to CNS and ADL. (Or maybe if CX receives a new 32Q and has a new layout, a triangular route, HKG-CNS-DRW-HKG, in my wildest dream) |
UO adding 5th BKK flight from 29 June
UO710 HKG 2205 - 0005 BKK 321 UO711 BKK 0055 - 0455 HKG 321 |

I was surprised that WSI was counted in the cap but that is more of issue with Aust government. I would have thought there should be incentives for airlines to start using WSI instead of SYD. |

Not sure if CX will do 1 daily to WSI TBH. Most HK diaspora lives closer to SYD, and far away from WSI. it would be good if they do WSI though, as they can do midnight SYD departures, and arrive at HKG at 6am, rather than leaving SYD at 10pm arriving at HKG at 4am during daylight saving hours.

It depends what I want to do on the trip - if visit family, WSI or SYD indifferent. If connect, SYD. Akin to NRT/HND. |

A bit. It'll be a wash for me.
It depends what I want to do on the trip - if visit family, WSI or SYD indifferent. If connect, SYD. Akin to NRT/HND. Where I live, I think I will get to both SYD and WSI at similar time by car via motorways, and probably cheaper to WSI due to lower tolls. But for a lot of HKers living in the East, Lower/Upper North Shore, Inner West, the South area, SYD is closer. Any suburbs west of Inner West, WSI comes into play. The only thing against WSI compare to SYD is the lack of direct trains to CBD. The airport metro will open a few months after WSI opening, but then would require a change of train to go to CBD. |
Depends when the connecting flights (QF and JQ for me) move over.
So far, I don't experience SYD as being capacity constrained in the sense LHR or HND is? This is more looking towards the future. |

CBR using A350-900 or A330-300 (with 28J) 2. OOL using A330-300 (with 28J) 3. HBA using A330-300 (with 28J) |
Besides, Cathay can try launching:
