I would be on the EDI flight as well but that would make...not that many of us probably. We'll see BHX or LGW again before it ever happens.

Besides WSI, Cathay can also consider launching
1. CBR using A350-900 or A330-300 (with 28J)
2. OOL using A330-300 (with 28J)
3. HBA using A330-300 (with 28J)

All 3 are unlikely:
CBR: SQ tried and pulled out of CBR and hasn't returned. The QF golden handcuffs are tight on the Canberrans with most of them prefer to fly QF.
OOL: Maybe if OOL and BNE keeps growing in population. Could be years away.
HBA: Too small of a city to have a direct flight to HKG. If SQ doesn't start one I cannot see CX being viable. I don't even think HX would make it work.

All the Canberrans with QF status from government-funded travel would get recognition on CX with oneworld though, so that would make CX more competitive. Would be worth considering a tag arrangement HKG-CBR-HBA to get loads up.

Sure if they are QFF G/P/P1 they can go to the Qantas Club or Business Lounge. But a lot of the CX fares earns a big fat Zero SCs in QFF. That is not going to please the Canberrans.

That's also why I had to credit my CX flights to CX and not QF.

after all the debate of new routes for a long time, unless CX gets second hand planes before 2028, I highly doubt a new long haul destination for a long time because of fleet shortage. i think the new places might only come from UO.

if one launches though, I still think CMN is likely.

on other news, foreign capacity to HKG continues to shrink next month, its getting harder and harder for foreign airlines to compete against CX group.

Widebody shortages + Russia airspace issues cannot be resolved shortly. It's the same for both CX and foreign airlines.

Cathay can buy second hand B777-300ER from Emirates, Singapore Airlines, Japan Airlines, etc, that are retiring B777-300ER, to replenish the loss of aircrafts that are returned to lessor.

I find it extremely unlikely that CX's next new long haul destination will be Casablanca. Unless if you have credible inside information, this is just pure speculation on your part?

This thread is Grace Kelly territory https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/37168321-post1890.html so anything flies.

Actually mods now may be a good time to split the thread, for future posts at least, into future route resumptions and (what many posts are about) a separate one for wishlist of CX/UO destinations. Thanks.

Poor cxwaterboy , we better chip in for a shovel he's gonna need sweeping a lot of the former into the latter.

UO increases PEN to 2 daily from 26 Oct 2025.

pretty insane considering airasia just left the route, another route UO has managed to kick foreign competitors out of.

i guess transit traffic is strong, something AK didn't have.
