Except (setting aside subsidies), CX/UO can easily boot HB and probably HX out of a village if they wanted to. You're assuming that airlines don't actually want to compete.

With what though? Non-existent planes? CX doesn't even have enough planes to run their own schedule comfortably.

Also, the markets are small. Once one airline is there, the planners at the other airlines will look at the route/ market size, and decide there is no opportunity to add seats. Nothing nefarious. Same as (say ) HKG-Surabaya. Even Garuda doesn't bother adding a flight t compete with CX.

SUB isn't a hub for GA - the only international route they serve out of Surabaya is Singapore. GA knows well enough their money-making routes come out of DPS (and serving connections via CGK).

UO is adding random villages in mainland I have never even heard of before so seems like they have planes to spare. I'm not expecting CX to run the likes of Kagoshima or Nagaski.

UO sure have the planes. They received around 14-16 planes in 2023 n 2024. But guess they only manage to get enough crews to ramp up the capacity now.

Lisbon would be a very good idea.

It's a shame Lisbon Airport is so awful though! Maybe Porto or Faro would work equally well?

What's wrong with LIS? It's incredibly compact, efficient and close to the city. Usually 10 mins in an Uber from my hotel.

Porto and Faro will [have terrible] yields.

LIS will only work if CX can codeshare with TAP on SA routes. Given the close relationships between CX and multiple Star Alliance members, this could work.

IAG (parent of BA) is a prime contender to acquire TAP, in which case the latter will join OW. In which case TAP and CX will belong to same alliance. Of course all just conjecture now.

If IAG succeed in acquiring TAP, how will Iberia (IB) cooperate with TAP or become rivalry like Qantas and Qatar ?

I sort of don’t get LIS as connecting hub for CX pax to SA. MAD has a much more extensive network and flights departing before noon time, perfectly for transit. Daily MAD makes a lot sense.

MUC and MAD are two European hubs that can easily take daily 359 traffic. CX shd be more focused on them.

IAG is also parent of Iberia, so I expect it would be similar to how different brands work within Lufthansa group

Everything is uncertain about the merger right now. It has been said that AFKLM is the frontrunner now, but who knows?

Just because the alliance is same does not mean CX can attract passengers.

CX can't even make Seattle work....

In my limited experience it was chaotic, cramped and obviously managed by people who couldn't organise the proverbial piss-up in a brewery. But then again I was coming off Emirates F after experiencing HKG and DXB (and connecting to TP to Madeira).

Depends where. For obvious reasons, TP is much stronger to Brazil than IB. IMO, TP is also much better than IB.

I'm sure they could make it work now that Alaskan is part of OW. They weren't previously when CX was flying there.
