Except (setting aside subsidies), CX/UO can easily boot HB and probably HX out of a village if they wanted to. You're assuming that airlines don't actually want to compete.

Also, the markets are small. Once one airline is there, the planners at the other airlines will look at the route/ market size, and decide there is no opportunity to add seats. Nothing nefarious. Same as (say ) HKG-Surabaya. Even Garuda doesn't bother adding a flight t compete with CX.

With what though? Non-existent planes? CX doesn't even have enough planes to run their own schedule comfortably

UO is adding random villages in mainland I have never even heard of before so seems like they have planes to spare. I'm not expecting CX to run the likes of Kagoshima or Nagaski.

It's a shame Lisbon Airport is so awful though! Maybe Porto or Faro would work equally well?
Porto and Faro will [have terrible] yields. |

What's wrong with LIS? It's incredibly compact, efficient and close to the city. Usually 10 mins in an Uber from my hotel.

LIS will only work if CX can codeshare with TAP on SA routes. Given the close relationships between CX and multiple Star Alliance members, this could work.

IAG (parent of BA) is a prime contender to acquire TAP, in which case the latter will join OW. In which case TAP and CX will belong to same alliance. Of course all just conjecture now.

MUC and MAD are two European hubs that can easily take daily 359 traffic. CX shd be more focused on them. |

Everything is uncertain about the merger right now. It has been said that AFKLM is the frontrunner now, but who knows?

I sort of don’t get LIS as connecting hub for CX pax to SA. MAD has a much more extensive network and flights departing before noon time, perfectly for transit.

Just because the alliance is same does not mean CX can attract passengers.
