Thanks for the info guys.
I think I'll have to make a transit visa work for me.
And I really cannot believe what OW has become.
I still remember the good old days when using Star Alliance, and being able to check my bag all the way to the final destination .
TAM to Singapore Airlines to TAP Air Portugal. Each of this in different bookings.

Star Alliance: Don't pine for a past that does not exist anymore http://www.ausbt.com.au/connecting-b...liance-skyteam . *A won't interline by default either.
Getting interline in Star alliance is usually very easy from pretty much all members and stations, although not guaranteed. NZ being the exemption.

Looking to travel SLC-SFO/LAX-HKG with the HKG on CX J. I need to purchase the SLC-SFO/LAX leg separately. Is there any advantage booking AA (no status) on SLC-LAX versus UA (status)? Since they won't interline my baggage I'm going to have to re-checkin anyways at LAX so I figure I might as well fly UA where I have status.

Just a thought...
Perhaps this all has to do with different carriers now starting (or have already started) to make self-service check-in/bag tag printing available?
By making sure that only the flights shown on the itinerary are included on the bag tag, there would no need for manual intervention by a staff member.

FTers in BA forum also suggested it is for greater control over revenue management http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...l#post27507062

After the OW change none of the alliances have a rule that they *have* to interline separate PNRs. However, oneworld is the only one to explicitly state that they won't!

The DL agent at YUL told us that since JJ had interline agreement with them, they would check my bag all the way to GRU, with the 2x32kgs rule. I was such a newbie back them. I knew nothing about airlines companies and baggage policy.
Star Alliance was always very accommodating with my requests. TAP, Us Aiways, United, Luthansa, TAM... I never had any problem whatsoever.
This OW policy is so unfriendly.

This new rule is terrible
Does this mean I have to collect my bags clear immigration and then check in again?
Right now I have CX 840 HKG-JFK arriving at 1905
Afterwards taking CX 889 JFK-YVR departing at 2100
I don't believe I have enough time if i need to collect bags, clear immigration etc.

EF search indicates that CX at JFK, Min Connect Time is 2 hr for Int-Int, and 1hr45min for Int-Dom.

Forgot to mention one is AA redemption and the other is a BA redemption so its not CX to CX
Well 1905 to 2100 is just a little less than 2 hours, I honestly don't know if its a legal connection for JFK
In that case guess I wont make it
