CX WILL interline to other oneworld airlines if travelling on separate PNRs

Hi, I have heard that OW members will no longer check baggage to final destination if the two sections of flights are not on the same ticket. Is that true? If it is, when will this regulation be effective? Thanks.

I don't believe there has been anything official about this. Have you seen anything published?

CX is very good at interlining baggage where possible.

As far as I know, MH is the only OW member that doesn't play nice when it comes to transferring between 2 itineraries.

Many recent reports of BA refusal on luggage interlining for separate PNRs (even both are on BA metals) or single PNR but two carriers.

I haven't seen any threads on BA, but this would suck for me. Have a BA to CX flight in October I was planning on transferring luggage on different tickets....:(

QR refused to check my bags through to NRT yesterday citing a new OW policy effective 1 June.

?? Where exactly are these "many recent reports"? AFAIK, BA policy is and remains that they will interline baggage:
1) on any carrier if on the same ticket;
2) on separate tickets only if the connection is to an OW airline.

So either OW's website is incorrect, your stopover time is 12+ hours, or DOH has a new special policy effective 1 June...

oneworld transfers
If you are travelling on connecting oneworld flights, your luggage will be checked through to your final destination at the time of check-in.*
If the time between connecting oneworld flights is more than 12 hours, you may need to collect your luggage on arrival and check-in again with the outbound carrier.

...

*You may be required to collect and re-check your bags at certain airports due to local security or customs policies.

Several reports about problem interlining luggage.

It was QR 1018 connect to CX 738, only less than 2 hrs at DXB. Thus, it cannot be sure to long connections.

... but some of these reports date back to eons ago. IMO, post #47 in that thread sums up the situation exactly right:

It does not appear so, certainly as neither BA nor Oneworld have communicated any change.

Therefore it follows that this is BA staff incompetence.

It has happened to me about 5 times over the years - every time at the First check in in LHR and every time I escalated until it was successfully resolved.

It is quite significant that most of these reports are from LHR. Let us not forget that BA at LHR rotates ground staff between all positions. As a result, most of these agents are jacks-of-all-trade that can do the basics of anything but struggle with anything beyond the plain vanilla. All that the thread suggests is that quite a few BA agents at LHR struggle with interlining bags just as much now as they ever did.

Thanks. That sounds good. Some of my friends said that they had already experienced such trouble. The source however is unknown.

Exactly. That is really awful.

It's a OW policy that came into effect on the 01JUN, it's on all separate tickets including OW airlines.

I think this explains why CX staff keep emphasizing "your flights are all on CX and KA right?" when I asked a question on check baggage involving two tickets today.....
