Switching out of Marco Polo: What do you choose and why?

FAQs as answered by AgencyGuy:

When will the mid-tier benefits be awarded?
They will be awarded as the member hits the mid-tier milestone. Not at the end of the membership year. These will be valid for a year commencing the day they are granted. No points are deduced when members are awarded these benefits.

Does that mean a member reaching 1800 tier points will get all three mid-tier benefits?
Yes, each benefit will be made available as the member hits the 1400, 1600 and 1800 point milestones

What mid-tier benefits will be awarded as of the conversion date of 15 April 2016?
The mid-tier benefits will kick in automatically after 15th April, if your converted club points balance exceeds the mid-tier thresholds. So for a Diamond tier member, if your converted balance is 1800 points you will immediately have access to two first class lounge guest passes, four bookable upgrades and one companion Gold card.

A Gold member on his/her way to Diamond pick up four short/medium upgrades along the way, but a renewing Diamond gets nothing?
You are correct, Silver, Gold or Diamond members on their way to renewal, don’t get additional benefits until they reach the mid-tier thresholds. But they will get there, I guess the benefits are designed to recognize members who go the extra mile after they have passed their renewal thresholds.

Is there any requirement on the underlying booking sub-classes when using a mid-tier upgrade "coupon"?
Yes, the original flight needs to be booked in an “upgradable” sub-class, the same sub-classes that qualify for Asia Miles upgrades

Is economy upgraded to Premium Economy or business for flights with Premium Economy?
It is always a one class upgrade so Economy to Premium Economy, if a flight does not have Premium Economy then the upgrade is to Business.

Are the sub-classes for the upgraded bookings A, I, and E (if applicable)?
I don’t know what these subclasses are yet other than that they will be revenue instead of redemption sub-classes. I guess they will be announced later.

What miles will be awarded for a flight upgraded using a upgrade coupon? The original ticket class, or the upgraded class?
I understand that both points and miles will be credited based on the upgraded class.

Green Re-Qualification
For Green members, if their membership year ends before 15 April 2016, like now, their membership will automatically be renewed. If their membership ends after 15 April and they have ANY club points at that time, they will be automatically renewed for another year (even if they are below 100 pts). If their membership ends after 15 April and they have no club points at that time, they will lose their Green membership or have the option of paying the US$100 fee to renew.

I'm curious now with the new system will I get points based on posting date like it's now or by flight date? I ask because I've got a few flights that with the new system I'm looking at more points vs mileage, so I would have an advantage by retrocredit... not that I'm would have issues renewing DM seeing I'm already there with eight more months to go.

I have a buddy that flies around the world constantly, basically has no life. So I am sorry.

On average I do about 10 RTWs a year in F plus other side trips or 1-2 day straight return trips from Asia to Europe......

Each RTW I will have 1 CX ULH at 140, 1 CX LH at 125, 1 Medium on AA/BA at 70. That is 335 just for the 3 international flights. Plus a bunch of US domestic. Plus in a bunch of Intra-European flights... a bunch of Intra-Asia flights.

So if I do 10 RTWs... that will be 3350 just on the 3 long flights before I count the other short flights.

Right now I'm doing on BA 4000+ tier points per year last 24 months trying to reach LTG and maintaining CX DM and double the annual requirement for SQ TPPS. I'm actually home (or on holiday with the family) 2/3 of the year so considering the amount I fly I'm pretty lucky to be at home so much.

That's why I say 3000-4000 a year if I put all my OneWorld flights to CX.

I may be taking a few flights to Europe this year, and I've just realized this new points system will really hurt me compared to the old system. Urgh

How would you compare BA Emerald vs CX DM? Do they have any unpublished benefits like CX? I love the short haul redemptions on BA.

I don't fly BA much as I find their seats too old and service hit and miss. Since I fly CX a lot more I find CX DM much better for flight redemptions.

BA miles are expensive to redeem these days.

Apparently, on CX you get more operational upgrades but since I normally fly F I don't experience it.

I agree. Especially, if you're willing to book a little further out.

For BA miles, it's good if you don't have to make a connecting flight. I'll redeem for HKG-TPE, HKG-BKK, HKG-MNL, or BKK-SIN.

I normally buy JCL for long haul and some PEY or EY for short flights. Long haul I rarely get the upgrade (and I'm fine with that), but PEY or EY on regionals, chances are quite high. MNL is almost a guarantee.

Just thought of this. For Y fares with OW carriers, how do I know the CX equivalent? In the past flying with AA any Y fare is 100% mileage posted. Now with this new system, how do I know which AA fare I needed to buy to make sure it falls no lower than V-fare bracket?

Jobs requiring flying in paid F is pretty normal, but flying 10 rtw a year plus domestic flights thats a first for me

What do you mean by CX equivalent? Y fares is Y fares in terms of points on CX there is a chart on how many points AA fares earn (choose the airline).

http://www.cathaypacific.com/cx/en_H...ng-points.html

Economy 1
Y, B, H, K, M, L, W, V, G, S, N, Q, O, X, C

All earn points with CX, why V or above fare bracket?

I saw in this months discovery magazine an interview with Nicholas Masse. He mentioned there would be rebranded tags and cards coming.

Unless they all started unifying their fare system, AA and CX letters don't always agree.

The link that jkuok shares is the one you want to see which AA fares earns what points.

I thought you had already analysed earn points and thought that staying with CX program would be best for you. You may need to reconsider this.
