Club Europe Catering Guide 2017.

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering, introduced on Sunday 26 March 2017 and due to end on Tuesday 11 September 2018, based on 3 zones. A new Club Europe catering product is due to be launch on Wednesday 12 September 2018, and this is based on 4 bands. The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that there was an increase in food offered on some combinations shortly after the start-up, so the more recent photos may be the best place to start. The previous shorthaul catering guide, now locked but which had the previous 4 band system, is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the pre-ordered versions - which are VLML (Lacto-ovo), AVML (Asia) and VGML (Vegan) . There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, LCY+STN. Last update: 833

Note posts before 1-832 are typically the April 2017 menu. 833 and above is from the menu for May 2017.

I'm 100% with c-w-s on that one. I just think that the hot item from the long band (even without choice) with cheese and dessert would be a vast improvement and I genuinely do not see why it would be any harder to deliver than the breakfast already served on medium band flights which already follows the exact same pattern.

and on a positive note...

forgot to mention that on our flight FAO to LGW this month, we were given delicious Peter's Yard Sourdough Crispbread Original with the cheddar cheese. Nicely wrapped and crisp as promised on the packet. Soooooo much better than the unwrapped oat cakes we had previously!
Looked up Peter's Yard, they are British, so home made product!

Yes - I agree with you both 100%. They certainly should relent on the flights to the cities like VIE, LIN/MXP, MAD, BCN, - there are doubtless others that do not spring immediately to mind.

Isn't this all about cost cutting? On the shorter routes with higher density of pax and higher frequency it's cheaper to offer a panini or a small salad? Same with full bottles of wine and bubbles: it all comes down to costs and cuts. I agree that they ought to serve something HOT for CE pax on most routes. Doesn't have to be big, but something more than a panini. On a lunch flight from LIN I would have expected more than a few bits of mozzarella, tomato and a dab of pesto with a pathetic chocolate slice. It's a bit insulting.

Well, NCE is longer than both VIE and LIN/MXP! Selfish request on my part I know!

This was the child’s meal on a short domestic NCL/LHR departing at 11:40. A bit of chicken slices and some cheese. The cheese had gone a little hard and the desert was the same as fit the standard meal.

Darling - if BA catering were down to me - I'd do the following

1) Exactly as suggested with the meal for Band 2

2) I'd ditch Afternoon Tea from 36,000ft - it causes nothing but complaints.

3) Get some trays big enough to put everything on

4) Make sure that there is a tray for everyone ( I should not have to specify that).

NCE is one of those places which is a challenge to get everything done in time particularly if the cabin is large (so I might add is FRA) - still as it is you - how could I refuse (and it is a big money destination.)

Please remind me why it is that you are not Head of Catering? And thanks for giving me special treatment - I'm blushing! ^

Disagree with the afternoon tea. I loved it when it had scones, jam and cream and used to pick the afternoon tea flight between LHR and DUB specifically to get it. Clearly they should bring it back solely due to my views

The trays, absolutely agree. Having to play Club Europe tray items Tetris every time I fly BA is boring.

i’m told on good authority that the smaller trays are to allow more to fit in the reduced galley space in preparation for the 1 A-C bulkheads being removed to make room for another row of seats !

This is discussed more here and whilst there is some debate about whether or not the bulkhead will go, it seems that smaller galleys (front or rear) = fewer trolleys = smaller trays.

They can't afford me Darling. I know all about blushing. Him Indoors calls it Hot Flushing and wonder why my hairbrush and his skull collide. Nearly broke the hairbrush!

To FRA last week the packaged bread with the Ploughman's was German Black Bread (not sure what it is called). Much the better option over the Afternoon Tea although would have preferred a slice of Cheddar rather than Stilton.

On the noon flight back today choice of Tomato/Mozzarella (will we ever see the back of this?) or Coronation Chicken salad. How odd to have a plate featuring garnish, Chicken bound in curry mayonnaise flanked by the usual 4 slices of unflavoured chicken. The Coronation chicken lacked the apricots and almonds etc but what is the point of then having more chicken on the side? Would it not make sense to have a side of, say rice salad or lentils?

Absolutely: It's not even a substantial salad of any kind: just a garnish!
