If you're going to post your own corp code in order to earn free days, it's nice to at least be up-front about it, especially when the only posts you've ever made on FT are to push your personal code.

You must show ID/License at parking gate. They are not crazy.

It depends on what you mean when you say "ID". Yes, you must show your license at the gate, but it's extremely rare for gate agents in the lot to ask for company ID for eligibility. On the other hand, I've heard of a number of instances where the person was preferred but they were asked to go to the counter first and then asked for ID to prove eligibility there.

Bottom line, if you've made it to the parking gate, you're probably home free, but don't assume that you will never be challenged for ID just because you are Preferred.

Yea. I meant company ID. So basically, I am taking chances, although it's very rare that they'll ask for company ID, right? I've done similar things with hotel booking, and I was never asked to show eligibility ID. I'll be picking up at a small regional airport in a small town, so I am not sure if they'll even have a gate there. Perhaps I'll still have to stop by the counter to pick up the key. I think I should call to ask before the trip.

Anybody knows a safe code that waives one way fees?
I am renting one way from Dulles to Orlando (June 18 to July 26)
There is a $500 one way fee I am trying to get rid of.
The HP code seems to work for that but is it safe?

This post will be about AWD coupons.

I read alot of responses in this thread and people are quick to point out this is the best AWD coupon. In reality, it mite be a great AWD coupon for one situation, but a poor choice for another. This is what I mean.

There are two sets or types of AWD coupons. Discount AWD coupons and fixed-rate AWD coupons. I’ll show you graphically the situations where these coupons excel.

The discount AWD coupons are great for rentals at lower priced locations and weekends. The two AWD coupons below are the best one’s I’ve found.

A433301 - Groupon (advertises upto 25% but normally gives between 10-20%) The best public, free for anyone to use discount AWD I've found.

A108396 - Costco (advertises upto 30% but normally goes between 15%-25%) The best of any discount AWD I've found.


Now let’s look at these coupons used graphically.

The fixed-rate AWD used is very competitive as you'll see in the next set of pictures. In this situation though, it is a poor choice as the advertised price is lower than the fixed prices of this particular fixed-rate AWD coupon. More than likely, no fixed-rate AWD exist that can beat those advertised prices so this will be an instance when you never want to use a fixed-rate AWD.

Now let's look at where fixed-rate AWD coupons excel. I changed the dates to midweek where you would typically find higher advertised prices.

As you can see, using a discount AWD was a horrible choice in this situation as the advertised rate is much higher than the fixed rate prices found in these particular fixed-rate AWD coupons. A discount AWD coupon will never get close to the fixed prices of the fixed-rate AWD coupons. In this situation, a fixed-rate AWD will always be a superior choice. So when we discuss different AWD coupons, shouldn't it broken down into 2 categories, which is the best fixed-rate AWD coupon and best discount AWD coupon?

Great analysis. That's why it's always best to check both types of discounts (or check all of them, like we do :p). FWIW, we've really never understood why Avis and other rental agencies even offer fixed-rate accounts: when the retail rates are high, that means demand is high, so Avis is throwing money away when they could easily rent out their cars for much more. When retail rates are low, savvy travelers will simply leave off the corporate code (or use a different, percentage-based one) and pay the lower retail rate. It's lose-lose for Avis. But it's win-win for us consumers, so I won't question it too loudly. ;)

But then again, other factors have to be taken into consideration too: if the discount AWD has unlimited miles, while the cheaper fixed-price AWD does have a set limit, then the latter might not be worth it if going for a long trip

Just one note, I sometimes ask again when I check in.. I know, with fastrack, five star, Avis First, etc., who wants to do that. but here is an example. Had a rental in MT earlier in the week.. was going to be 176$ for the four days. when I showed up, they put me in a bigger car for 98$ all in. Must have had a lot of cars, or willing to discount. Autoslash hadn't caught it or didn't see the discount that could be provided, but save a tad more than expected. YMMV

Is there a Code which uncludes the ALI and LDW from LAX to LAX? I want to rent a Suburban, but with those two insurances, the prices for a month goes from 2k to 3k... Thanks!

There are many codes that include LDW but they are for employees of the company/organization the code is for. It would be useless to you, because if you did get into an accident, the first thing Avis would do would be to contact the company/organization whose AWD code you used to verify that you were an employee and authorized to use it. Of course the company is going to say no, and then the LDW/ALI that you thought was included in your rate is null and void. Not a good plan.

A better approach (assuming you don't own a car) is to get a non-owner's policy. The premium will be far, far less than the $1K Avis is going to charge you. You can also check out rentalcover.com or use a credit card that offers LDW, but you would still need something like a non-owner's policy if you wanted/needed ALI.

In that case, you should go to hertz.com or avis.com any other company and set your home country and look for insurance inclusive rates. You can also try dollar.co.uk or alamo.co.uk. Many times I've seen prepaid rates that include insurance that are less than rates you can book in the U.S. without insurance. Also check out expedia.co.uk. Hope this helps.

Amazing how much rates will vary.

just use Avis Switzerland. Rates quoted on that site all include SLI and LDW, zero decuctible. Using AWD H811101, that suburban is CHF 1,918 for a month (28 days).

Came across this AWD code: C302100. Tried a Google search to determine where it originated. No luck. But holy crap: tested this out online using an airport location in Canada ... rates for economy cars came up below $150 (CAD) and LDW rates were $10/day. Anyone know the origins of this code or had any good/bad luck using this?

Both of these codes are poor choices during weekends and at locations that have fairly low advertised rates. When I used both of these codes, they actually increased the price of the advertised rate.

Thought there might be a hitch. Tried C302100 code as a weekly rate, matched with a usable PC entry (say, MUCA130); came up as a fantastic rate. But that was just for my particular case. More curious about the AWD code ownership, if any.

I'm Italian, can i use Avis Switzerland in Italian and rent a car to the US from there? I think i noticed that for the same US price, unlike avis.com it includes the LDW and ALI.

And if so, where i can further add the coupon code on the swiss site? (think i missed this one)

What i mean is can i pay a CHF480 reservation with a US debit/credit card (example citibank) in the Avis Switzerland site, that it would be around $488 for a 14 day car rental with LDW and ALI included. I'm a EU national (Italy), wish to use this site to book a rental for Miami International Airport Pick Up/Drop off.

The best rates i've gathered so far are:

14 Days $411 (Compact with taxes and all, except LDW and ALI)
14 Days CHF480 (Small with taxes and all, including LDW and ALI)

Looking at using the USAA code A177232 but it is showing that it's not unlimited mileage.. Did this change? .30 per mile adds up pretty quick.
Looking at doing a one way about 800 miles.

Nope.. I had tried a couple local places and I won't be dropping off at an airport either.

This comes up with a terrific rate for me as well. Google search reveals it might be a code that originated in Canada, but it pops up on sites like RetailMeNot and a couple of other coupon sites.

Does anyone have any insight to its origination? I have a week-long rental I'm considering using this for tomorrow, and it's the best rate I can find.


In my experience, no AWD codes allow for inexpensive one-ways. Drop fees and mileage suddenly apply. Two years ago when I needed a one-way from Southern California to Seattle, I walked into a city rental office (not an airport), just explained what I wanted (no drop-fee, unlimited mileage), she just looked up the Costco rate on her own and the rate was incredibly good.

Yes, that is possible. You can do this on various European sites without any issues. check different country sites like avisautonoleggio.it, avis.nl, avis.fr and avis.ch, prices differ sometimes markedly.

Just received: AWD M646600 for rentals in GERMANY ONLY, 15% off from 15th July til 31st of August 2016.
I live in Germany and can choose ot of our own cars (BMW 7, MB R-class and Maserati Quattroporte), so I am not in need, but maybe someone can use it. Have fun
