I have no other AWD, coupon, or rate code entered. Any tips on how to deal with this?

I got the same error but it worked when I booked in incognito without logging in to my account.

AVIS new reservation web page appears to be matching the AWD with the one on profile. Rather than go incognito and lose your AVIS points, best thing to do is go into your profile and update the AWD to the one you want to use. You can reserve a car immediately after the change without the error message.

Does this mean I would be responsible for 100% cost for collision damage and theft?

UPDATE: Called Avis and they confirmed CDW and TP not included, even though it said they were during the purchasing process. Had to cancel, bit too much of a risk. Anyone know codes that include CDW and TP? If I still had my Amex Platinum would have been fine.

Do you have a CSR?

todd-r Nov 2, 2016 8:21 pm

Dublin is the worst place to rent. All cars come with liability. You only need colission. Some credit cards may cover but if you decline their CDW they charge a 30/Euro admin fee to DECLINE. If you decline and do damage they charge your card an obscene amount and then you have to claim that back to your cc who will usually pay right away.

thegingninj Nov 3, 2016 12:31 pm

I have a CSR and am looking to use a code in New Zealand in 2 weeks. What does CSR cover?

Agreed. The 30 euro is explained as a 'processing fee' or such. I believe Hertz do the same thing in Dublin.

any folks have a good AVIS AWD for Asia? most of the solid North America codes don't do squat for Asia rentals (specifically Singapore).

Thanks.

steve33 Nov 9, 2016 6:43 pm

FWIW - Avis sent me a thing to sign up for a small business account and get my own AWD... it actually matches some of the AWD discounts here.

Same problem. Trying to find good rate for Kuala-Lumpur.

Have either of you guys received FF points with B270898?

I have a few rentals from August that have not posted, yet the receipts say points were earned.

I didn't bother to earn (criminal, I know... :p)

I got the following response back from Avis:

"After careful review of our records, we find that you are an employee of Peregrine Systems. The Peregrine Meetings & Conventions discount number, B270898, is ineligible for frequent traveler program points/miles"

TennisNoob Nov 14, 2016 8:29 pm

Any advise on coupon codes?

I have costco discount down for the AWD # but any 3 day rental discount codes, etc.?

AndroAsc Nov 21, 2016 12:12 pm

Any advice if the one-way rental codes are still good with no ID checks?

A686200 Priceline
A972200 Farmers Insurance
A074800 Citicorp (Leisure Travel)
G930700 IBM

Anyone of them has been blacklisted?

The mileage is also blank, so is that unlimited, cause I can't find any mention of charging mileage in the ToS.

papyPiHi Nov 22, 2016 3:41 am

The below AWD are not ID checked:

Flying Blue - Gold: F982900
Flying Blue - Platinum: F983000

Last rental gave me 30% in France with the first one

belfordrocks Nov 22, 2016 7:34 am

IME ID check is very much a YMMV/agent based thing.

surfshadow Nov 22, 2016 2:30 pm

I use " A686200 Priceline " all the time, no issues.

Works perfectly - got about 30% off because of this one ^

IME Costco is always better than those 4.

Interesting DP - A month back or so I got an invite to make a small business account (have my own AWD number now). My small business is an LLC just for me. I had an upcoming reservation with Avis and also Enterprise.

My rep (I got a rep, lol) called me and asked to get more info about my business. I explained I had an upcoming reservation with both Enterprise (for a Tahoe for $425) and Avis (for an Edge for $450). I said it wasn't a competitive rate, and somehow my rep managed to get my rate down to $328!! Said to email him directly if I need a car rental in the future and he would get a competitive rate.

Highly recommend signing up your "small business"

One month rental in Toronto, Canada?

Anyone have any codes/advice on how to get the best deal for a one month rental in Toronto (roughly Dec6-Jan5)? Best I've gotten so far is $864 with B270898 (Costco). Can anyone beat that?

Thanks!

belfordrocks Dec 4, 2016 1:18 am

B270898 is not Costco

This got me about $30 off a 1 week prepaid rental in Europe - the biggest discount I was able to get after trying multiple codes. I gave the quote to a well-known car rental broker that promises to beat all competitors' prices, and they gladly gave me this price for the exact same Avis rental, plus a few additional dollars off. The nice thing is that Avis charges a $50 fee for prepaid rental cancellations (at least in this particular country; not sure about elsewhere in Europe or the world), whereas the broker charges no cancellation fee.

So far I have gotten my best rates through use of this code coupled with a Costco car upgrade discount code.

Pickup - ABF (Naples Airport)
4/9 at 3:30pm

Dropoff - RSW (Southwest Intl)
4/17 at 5:00 am

Best rate I have gotten all in is $311.

Any assistance would be appreciated, especially if folks see better rates. Thanks!

bump on this code .. U915590 .. anyone know if its safe to use? Gave best rates for FLL end of December. I had option to prepay but just ended up reserving instead of doing the Prepay.

What rates were you finding? I have one my travel agent uses that hasn't been posted here, just want to see if it's comparable

Has anyone used the Bombardier code for a one-way rental and got charged for mileage? Took me off guard.

cesc Dec 12, 2016 12:28 pm

I actually saw that there was a mileage charge when I was trying to use the Bombardier code for a one way out of JFK so didnt use the code. However if you are trying to use the Bombardier code for a one way rental from a non airport location then there wont be any mileage charge.

Check the mileage field before finalizing your rental. If its blank then there will most likely be a mileage charge. I presume for Bombardier its 0.27 per mile. I specifically watch for 'Unlimited' against that field in the rental booking form.

When I try to use a new AWD code, I get this error: The rate code you entered requires an Avis World Wide Discount (AWD) number. Please go back and enter your AWD number or remove the rate code you entered.

How do I resolve this so I can just walk to my car & drive away?

I saw this yesterday and along with a couple of other things, I attribute it to bugs in the new website.

The Avis Canada (www.avis.ca) site was still on the older version and allowed me to successfully make a reservation with my AWD.

If you are on a site that gives you that message, you have to go into your account and add the AWD to your profile, and it will then let you make the reservation based on that AWDs rates. Looks like an attempt to bar use of the AWDs by people not qualified. I call later and add my personal AWD to the rez to get credit on my personal account rather than my biz account.

Thanks for the tip on avis.ca. Worked like a charm.

Can't believe the rate I got for a 2 day YUL rental with A972200.
Base rate of CAD$13/day and unlimited miles, 2 day total with taxes/fee of CAD$55.
And as PC, I always get upgraded.
Probably not a lot of demand for Montreal in January. :D

mazzaw Dec 16, 2016 5:53 pm

Hi, I do not have any AWD affiliation and would like to do a one way rental for 2 weeks on USA. I am coming from New Zealand and do not know if any of the previously mentioned codes would be ok for me to use. Would anyone be able to suggest any, much appreciated!!

TennisNoob Dec 17, 2016 7:57 pm

Has anyone found an discount code better than Costco?

I have yet to find one that beats it. The other discount codes post higher %s but even costco saying 20-35% is always better IME.

The rate i found was $300 for 4 days.

When i check my reservation now, it shows full price without the awd code at $650.

What to do now? Should i call and confirm and ask about the the change in price if they tell me different from my email confirmation.

No more mini vans available around fll for the dates i am looking for.

Avis system now flags an account if it has used more than one corporate code. I was challenged - although mildly - at the Avis counter when I went to pick my car. The rep showed me the screen (standard mainframe screen) that had the two codes I had used recently and asked me who do I work for. Looks like Avis is doing all sorts of things to limit any revenue leakage from usage of corporate discount codes.

Thanks for the heads-up. The answer is in being able to claim independent contractor status and carrying some form of business card or official letterhead. (My chrome pocket business-card holder bears the logo of one of my corporate code entities.)

But no mind...I'm now doing all sorts of things to limit any revenue leakage from giving money to Avis!

I have my own Avis code for my company, but it doesn't offer anywhere near what some of these codes offer. Avis created this madness by playing favorites with different entities, often regardless of the entity's size or revenue.

If Avis weren't so dodgy in their implementation, people wouldn't scramble around using others' codes in the first place.

belfordrocks Dec 22, 2016 8:04 am

I don't have an account. I don't really bother points or getting an "upgrade" to something that will cost me more gas at the expense of being forced into more expensive rentals.

Has anyone used A679100 (Hawaii State Bar association)? Did they ask for ID?

This also got me a very nice discount on a one-way rental in the US recently. Had to use the avis.ca site. Previous posts from a year or two ago state that rentals using this code are not unlimited mileage, but it was unlimited in my case.
