Reminder: you must enroll and select AA as your airline BEFORE making a reimbursable purchase. "Please call the number on the back of your Card to select a qualifying airline."

50/50 on Whether it gets Approved
  • Award Taxes/Fees
  • Change Fee
  • Pet Fee
  • Upfares

Data Points on automatically reimbursed incidentals since 2017:

Admirals Club Memberships: Admirals Club Passes: Admirals Club Food/Drinks: Award Cancellation Fee*: Award Taxes/Fees: Baggage*: Change Fee*: Close-In Ticket Fee*: Elite 500-mile Stickers: Elite Challenges: Elite Status Buyback: External Reservation Fee: Five Star Service: Gift Cards:
  • No
Infant Fees: MCE/Seat Selection: Mileage Multipler: Miles Purchase from AA.com: Monthly AA Wifi Subscription Plan: Pet Fee*: Same Day Flight Change: Upfares: Upgrades:
Wifi is provided by one of three third-party providers and is thus not eligible for the incidental credit. Monthly Wifi subscription plans through AA appear to be eligible for automatic credit.

* For items not automatically reimbursed but which are not excluded by Amex, you can try and request manual reimbursement from American Express; however, you may need to wait 14-28 days first.

NOT WORKING: Partial payment by gift card or voucher combined with partial payment by Amex doesn't work. Full payment of a ticket under $100 stopped working sometime in 2020.

Did you pay all in cash or a combination of cash and miles? Thanks.

Similar experience here, I split the AC membership fee between my Plat and my Aspire. Whether or not the phone rep knew what I was trying accomplish, she was pleasant and completed the transactions exactly as requested. Reimbursements posted a few days later.

Had about $63 dollars remaining on my 2019 credit so I purchased two upgrades on 12/31. The remainder of my 2019 credit posted on 1/3. The upgrades purchase was categorized as, "Additional Collection" on my statement.

I'm about to snag a mileage upgrade on a TPAC flight which I think will have a decent chance to clear. Does anyone know if the $350 copay will trigger the amex credit?

I paid 30K miles + $150 to confirm an upgrade for an upcoming fight from JFK-LAX on AA for me and my companion. I completely forgot about the airline fee reimbursement. My Platinum card had AA set up as my airline.

Then noticed the $150 fee was reimbursed. A nice surprise Also the flight is now down to F2J2 so I am glad we didn’t wait out to play the upgrade lottery.
