Reminder: you must enroll and select AA as your airline BEFORE making a reimbursable purchase. "Please call the number on the back of your Card to select a qualifying airline."

Summary of Reimbursements.

AMEX AA Reimbursement Approved
  • Admirals Club Memberships
  • Admirals Club Passes
  • Admirals Club Food/Drinks
  • Elite Status Buyback
  • External Reservation Fee
  • Five Star Service
  • MCE/Seat Selection
  • Mileage Multipler
  • Monthly Wifi Subscription through AA
  • Same Day Flight Change
  • Upgrades
  • Baggage
AMEX AA Reimbursement NOT Approved
  • Award Cancellation Fee
  • Close-In Ticket Fee
  • Elite Challenges
  • Gift Cards
  • Inexpensive tickets
  • Infant Fees
  • Miles Purchase from AA.com
  • Wifi (per flight)
50/50 on Whether it gets Approved
  • Award Taxes/Fees
  • Change Fee
  • Pet Fee
  • Upfares

Data Points on automatically reimbursed incidentals since 2017:

Admirals Club Memberships: Admirals Club Passes: Admirals Club Food/Drinks: Award Cancellation Fee*: Award Taxes/Fees: Baggage*: Change Fee*: Close-In Ticket Fee*: Elite 500-mile Stickers: Elite Challenges: Elite Status Buyback: External Reservation Fee: Five Star Service: Gift Cards:
  • No
Infant Fees: MCE/Seat Selection: Mileage Multipler: Miles Purchase from AA.com: Monthly AA Wifi Subscription Plan: Pet Fee*: Same Day Flight Change: Upfares: Upgrades:
Wifi is provided by one of three third-party providers and is thus not eligible for the incidental credit. Monthly Wifi subscription plans through AA appear to be eligible for automatic credit.

* For items not automatically reimbursed but which are not excluded by Amex, you can try and request manual reimbursement from American Express; however, you may need to wait 14-28 days first.

NOT WORKING: Partial payment by gift card or voucher combined with partial payment by Amex doesn't work. Full payment of a ticket under $100 stopped working sometime in 2020.

I had posted my successful experience a couple of weeks ago. I did use a combination of miles and cash (with just a little more than the $120 I had left to reimburse) and it DID in fact get reimbursed. I'm not sure if one done all in cash would go through or if one in which the cash amount is substantial would work, but my case did get reimbursed automatically a few days after posting.

Mileage multiplier did NOT work for me for 12/31. Maybe things have changed.

I purchased MM for 162 on Dec 27 and was reimbursed on Dec 30. Would you mind sharing the $ amount of your purchase? Was it over 200?

I apologize....i meant to ask is the Admiral Club Day Pass reimbursable for a companion....so, i will buy one for myself which only i can use , and then for my spouse..if I purchase another Day pass, should it be done on the same transaction, or different, or does it matter?

American Express does not care who uses the pass.

so , i can buy TWO 1-day passes on the same day of travel for myself and spouse.... and each will be reimbursed, correct? i guess I just didn't know if I have to buy them in 2 separate transactions....(59 each) to trigger the credit... or if the Club runs a charge of $118 that would be ok too.

It does not matter if you buy one or two or four. If the transaction is not automatically reimbursed you will need to call, but there will be no problem because lounge access is one of the reasons that American Express originally introduced this feature. Note that you can only buy passes in person at an Admirals Club. They are no longer sold online.
