CAUTION: In February 2019, American Airlines changed the coding of gift card transactions. Although there are a few successful data points since, in general, Gift Card purchases are now explicitly identified, and no longer reimbursed by American Express.

Reminder: you must enroll and select your airline BEFORE making a reimbursable purchase. http://www.americanexpress.com/airlinechoice -or- "Call the number on the back of your Card to select a qualifying airline."

Data Points on automatically reimbursed incidentals since 2017:

Admirals Club Memberships: Admirals Club Passes: Admirals Club Food/Drinks: Award Cancellation Fee*: Award Taxes/Fees: Baggage*: Change Fee*: Close-In Ticket Fee*: Elite 500-mile Stickers: Elite Challenges: External Reservation Fee: Five Star Service: Infant Fees: MCE/Seat Selection: Mileage Multipler: Pet Fee*: Same Day Flight Change: Upfares: Upgrades:
Wifi is provided by one of three third-party providers and is thus not eligible for the incidental credit.

* For items not automatically reimbursed but which are not excluded by Amex, you can try and request manual reimbursement from American Express; however, you may need to wait 14-28 days first.

Amex Plat - Interesting DP: I purchased 2 x $100 AA Gift Cards on 1/30. On 2/2 I got reimbursed for $100. I haven't seen the 2nd reimbursement yet.

Purchased two AA GC's on 1/24, still no reimbursement as of 2/4. I had AA designated last year and it worked fine. Set it up as AA again this year. Any thoughts?

Should've been no need to redesignate AA for the second year.

Just a small point.

My last $200 on Aspire (2x$100 GC) posted on pretty much the same schedule as everyone else is reporting.

Charged 1/31, Credit posted 2/3.

The credit though didn't actually show up until today -- 2/5 -- with a 2/3 date. Maybe due to the weekend? I did, however (and this is the small point) notice over the weekend that when I clicked on the benefits tab for my Aspire it showed that all of my credit had been used up.

2/10 Purchased 100x2 GC on Plat, 100x1 on PRG.

Already 2/14 No reimbursement yet, what do you think might have happened? Its been more than 4 days, I’m guessing the weekend was an issue?

Document Type: MISCELLANEOUS TAX(S)/FEE(S).

Too soon to be concerned. I cleared 2x (two Plat cards) 2x $100 already. One thing I noticed was that although in retrospect the account would show something like purchased 1/24, reimbursed 1/26 (or maybe 1/27 ... it was not always two day separation), the purchase might well have been made 1/23 and the reimbursement would not have appeared on the account until 1/27 or 1/28. And, yes, in my small 4 GC sample, weekends appeared to slow things down a bit.
