77W, maybe conversion of existing -200ER orders coming
As best I can tell, AA still has 7 remaining orders for 777-200ER planes, perhaps there may be negotiations under way for upgrades to -300ER, maybe tied in to 787 delay comp?
just guessing...

Sorry but I don't see the excitement - it's just another boring aluminum & composite tube, pretty much like the -200ER, only a bit longer. I suppose it has more doors, but I would guess they'll now have to get more passengers throw one, so where's the gain?

That and if you are in the back of Y it will take longer to get off the a/c.

Greater fuel efficiency, increased gross and useful weights, passenger capacity, range... useful in light of possible longer-range routes and extended 787-923 delays. 2012 delivery - maybe we will see (speculation!) see the rumoured new Business class product, as well as a renewed F suite?

I'll be interested in seeing if they come as F/J/Y or lie-flat J/Y.

So should the new title now become: where will/should the 777-300ER be used for?

From one of the press releases I read, apparently Arpey said something to the effect of "these aircraft are intended for expansion routes". Anybody's guess as to what that is, but I'll venture another guess in that AA likely already has a route in mind for these two birds.

I would venture to guess we'll see additional orders before the first one is even on property.

I would much rather see MIA-JNB or MIA-SEA-NRT/HND

ORD-HKG. Gives them the ability to better serve S.E. Asia and mainland China by connecting with CX/KA flights which are more extensive to that part of Asia then JL ex-NRT/HND. My guess is AA and CX will cross-codeshare their ORD-HKG flights just like AA and JL do now. It all makes sense to me: use JL for north Asia and CX for south Asia. But, just my speculation in keeping with FT's favorite sport.

I'd bet it's a route not served by one of AA's Oneworld partners.
