LAX - Sat 5/19 - 845pm
Sign was out, but had paid F upgrade on transcon redeye, so gave it a try.
Lounge dragon took his sweet time before he pulled himself away from his reading - or paperwork - while I stood there at the reception desk. Finally, after a minute or two, he looked in my direction.
i handed him my Priority Pass card along with my ticket for seat 2C. A quick scan of the lounge seemed to show it was less than 80% full.
"The sign downstairs says the lounge is closed to priority pass," he said.
I mentioned that I had a first class seat, and asked if that entitled me to use the lounge.
"Only fully paid first class tickets, not coach tickets with paid upgrades," he said. I felt like there was something dismissive in his attitude, so I decided not to argue, but to simply stand there and make him feel uncomfortable and get him to provide some further explanation.
Finally, after an awkward silence, Mr Lounge Dragon said there were several delayed flights (actually one to SF with a lengthy delay and a commuter flight delayed by 20 minutes), and he said the lounge was full (it was not). He said he was sorry, and, with that, I asked the location of the MLL. (It seemed a good way to end the conversation.) He gave me directions - which, of course, I did not need.
The MLL was closed - even though the hours listed showed it was supposed to be open, so I went downstairs and grabbed a couple of fish tacos at Wahoo's - when Mr Lounge Dragon happened to appear at Wahoo's to grab a bite to eat. I looked away, he ordered, and he went somewhere else to eat.
After I finished my tacos, I had time to kill, and went back to see that the sign was gone from in front of the elevator. So I went up to the Board Room. Mr Lounge Dragon wasn't there, and when I presented my PP card and boarding pass to the other receptionist, she smiled and said, "that's not necessary, sir. You've already been here, so you don't have to show that again. Enjoy your stay."
She was as kind as he was standoffish, and she seemed a bit embarrassed.
BTW, that $213 paid upgrade on the LAX-IAD redeye on Virgin metal was worth its weight in gold. The flight was nearly 100% full, with a group of schoolkids taking every seat in the rear third of the plane. How sweet it was to enjoy the big white leather Virgin seats - and sleep most of the way home.

Agreed.
Everything in his body language and facial expression from the moment I walked up to the reception desk indicated to me that he didn't want to be bothered. I felt unwelcome.
I did not upbraid him or in any way criticize him. In fact, I kept silent until he offered an explanation as to why I was being denied entry.
If keeping silent and making him uncomfortable is attitude, I plead guilty - incredibly guilty. Guilty of returning serve.
A simple, "I'm sorry," up top would have surely sufficed, perhaps explaining the rationale for his decision. And I really did believe that a paid first class upgrade on a transcon entitled me to entry, as it has for me once or twice in the past.
He may have been having a bad day, and he may have been nearing break time or the end of his shift, being that he was on the passenger concourse ordering food ten minutes later. His attitude started the chill. And, yes, I returned that attitude with silence.
The saving grace, if there was one, is that neither of us raised our voice, neither of us said anything unkind or provocative. Nothing was escalated. We both remained professional. And, coincidentally, the sign came down ten minutes later.
The fact is I'm one of those Virgin America customers and fans who may - or may not - give most of my transcon business to Alaska. I was booked on a legacy Virgin flight. This was my first post-merger visit to the LAX Board Room. And this was my first encounter. First impressions, as they say, are lasting ones.

LAX lounge now. Arrived at 11:45 am , no sign out. While checking in, she decided it was time to put sign out. Lounge is totally full. 4 families with at least 3 kids each in lounge. However, none of the kids are in the playroom . Families have commandeered large areas with 6 -8 chairs to corral the kids. Makes finding 2 seats very difficult.
I guess a glass a wine will make it all OK.
Seems like summer travel or at least holiday travel has begun.

CSR has released a notice for cardholders regarding the use of PP at airport lounges. After August, PP cardholder may only bring 2 guests into lounge with card. Additional guests will be charged $27 per guest.
So, families will 2 adults and 2 kids will need to pay additional to use lounge. Perhaps CSR is hoping to increase purchase of authorized users cards, which get their own PP?
Hoping to see in decrease in lounge crowding and increase in PP admittance .

Sign out around 9am at PDX on a relatively slow Saturday morning (after the early morning rush) but it seems to be out almost all the time now...oh well....went to Capers so I was a happy camper.

Sign out at SEA D at 17:30 on a Saturday afternoon. (No big deal; I just spent several hours in The Club in S, having it almost to myself for much of the time), including watching a BA 747 pull in right in front of my nose.)
The boarding area at gate D1 has been reconfigured so it's mostly filled with lines. They left 42 seats (I counted) in a waiting area which is currently handling a 145-seat A320.

Same day-We were admitted to N at about 4:30 after being referred from C(agent called over to check and put us on a list). When we left at about 5 the signs were out at all 3.(went for a walk)
One of the FA's for our flight was in the lounge(not in uniform) with another non-working AS FA.
Also admitted to N on 5/26 @ 6:30am.
