Priority Pass and denied entry at the Alaska Lounge b/c of space - 2018 and Earlier

So this is a first. Just tried to use the SEA Board Room just past security and was told it was full and to come back at 6p or to try the N terminal Board Room. It didn't appear to be full - there were empty seats and I've seen it far busier in the mornings - so I asked if it was full to everyone or just full to Priority Pass members. Reply was that they were saving room for Board Room members.

I'm writing this from the N Board Room, so mainly just an annoyance since our flight leaves from C, but has anyone run into this before? PP not near as valuable if it is a crap shoot as to whether I can use it. I know the PP terms say access may be limited by space constraints, but am wondering if those are now being enforced more stringently.

Missy - Are there new (lower) limits in effect or did I just get unlucky?

I wonder if the fire marshal has started to make some enforcements.

This did happen to me at SEA in the AMEX lounge, however they were giving away 25$ Starbucks gift cards to appease everyone.

Since AS presumably collects money from PP for every visit, they turned down money to eekp seats for those who paid them for a membership. As a PP member myself I can sort of appreciate that if it is done based on reasonable data.

I wonder if AL guest passes are honored under similar circumstances.

Had this happen to me 2 weeks ago. Just used my 75K BR pass instead. Never thought I'd ever had to use that pass myself but happy that it's all digital now.

Well, well this is certainly a new wrinkle.
Wondering if flying on AS and using PP is favored over PP use without AS boarding pass?
Flying next week and will use PP because VX F does not allow lounge access.
Now , keeping fingers crossed for access to pancakes!!

Thanks for the data point.

Sounds like we'll need to keep tabs on this.

Recently I've just been going to the AMEX CL for the most part in SEA. But PDX yields no other pp options.

I don't think they care if you fly AS. It seems like just presenting a PP card when they no longer want to allow entry is the "issue". The agent did apologize when I said I'm just going to use my 75K lounge pass instead.

Another reason I'm going to miss DL at SEA. They have better lounges, and with AMEX Plat, they don't deny.

If this is exclusive to SEA, it's not that bad. SEA is one of the most over-lounged airports in the country, and there are usually other options.

If you check the PP app it'll often tell you upfront that access may be limited/denied due to space constraints. It appears both AS lounges at SEA have that disclaimer in the app.

I seem to be in the minority here but I am glad they are limiting entry to non-BR members when it gets busy. As a BR (ok, I know, Lounge) member I should be able to access the BR and not have the space taken by those who entered without being members.

I've seen them do this from time to time over the last 2-3 years. Same with PDX and SFO when that BR existed.

I always enter the BR with PP and have never been denied in ANC, SEA, PDX, or LAX. The lounge that seems to be the most crowded lately is the AMEX lounge in SEA....never been turned away but finding an open seat can be a challenge, especially if you have another person with you that you want to sit by. It doesn't help that some of the seats are "reserved" for the high $$ AMEX card holders. I would take a $25 Starbucks card in exchange for entry anytime ^

I agree with you on this issue. One of the reasons I let my Alaska Board Room (AKA Alaska Lounge) membership lapse at renewal was because I was increasingly frustrated with the overcrowding by those who are not actually BR members. Well, there also was the issue of the ratty chairs and poor food selections ...

I plan to renew my membership in the future provided Alaska can deal with the overcrowding by limiting access to non-members *and* is they can step up their food and beverage game.
