This new annual thread has been carved out of the previous thread in an effort to reduce the number of megathreads on the AC forum. For those interested previous versions are the original 2004 - 2014 thread , 2015 edition, 2016 edition , 2017 edition, 2018 edition and 2019 edition.
The original thread started by accident but quickly became a popular place to come and discuss off topic things such as hockey, new movies, or almost anything that wouldn't fit into existing AC forum threads. Air Canada or Aeroplan topics such as flight feedback, in-flight services issues, status or mileage earning/redemption are all topics that should go into existing AC forum threads so others can benefit from this information. Topics about hotels or airlines and/or their loyalty programs, destinations, in-flight travel tech. or anything best discussed elsewhere on FT may be relocated to that forum as this thread isn't meant to import travel topics to this forum that are better discussed on other forums. FT is an amazingly diverse and large community so members are encouraged to seek out all of its resources.
While the conversation is more relaxed as it would be in a lounge that doesn't mean however that the FT rules don't apply here as they definitely do so please refrain from controversial topics such as politics or religion, avoid profanities and treat other lounge patrons with the same respect you expect.

SHGs are bad, but the one that the Habs gave up tonight was extra brutal.

Man, it's cold in Edmonton; cold as the Raps in the second half last night in OKC.

Apparently we are in for some snow in TO along with a severe Feb (whatever that means). I think we kind of forgot what winter looks like this year so perhaps a reminder is due.
My colleagues from YVR tell me that most of the suburbs shut down yesterday due to snow. How very Vancouver like. I believe half of Vancouver drives RWD, winter tires are unheard off as are snow plows. And if the driveway has a slope, you cannot go to work.

Lots of snow plows in my neighborhood. And winter tires as well. But I'm on hill that is over 100m tall and really steep which makes life interesting regardless.
The buses do manage to get up and down here okay but the larger issue for me is impact on the trains. They can't run fully automated in snow and have to be manually driven which slows them down. Buses in parts of Vancouver closer to the ocean have more issues though maybe due to the wetter snow there. Dunno.
But unlike AC, we only have snow a couple of days a year and people here simply don't handle it well. When I lived on the other side of the Continental Divide I recall the first snow of the year had a similar effect. I swear people acted like they'd never seen the stuff before. And that was in YXE which has more than a couple days of snow.
But I'm avoiding the carnage and working from home today.

Obviously there are people who do need to get around in Vancouver in spite of the transportation chaos but a lot of people and employers could do the world a favour and just stay home - leaving the roads a little clearer for first responders, employees of essential services, medical professionals, etc.

I found this amusing and interesting
Airport webcams and cleaning a runway in YUL. I took the screen shot just as the plows were heading out. Link is live so plows have moved

Given all the #sportspuck media frenzy leading up to tonight's game, look who scored the game winner, in a shoot-out no less. #karma ?

I was just invited to YYC tonight, but I'm not sure I want to go with so little planned. Anyone want to host a do tomorrow?
I need to know in 20 minutes

Not sure I would have been up for putting on a Do, but you could definitely have joined me and Mrs. Smith at Buchanan's
