FlyerTalk Forums Expert How-Tos and Guides
Last edit by: tcook052
This new annual thread has been carved out of the previous thread in an effort to reduce the number of megathreads on the AC forum. For those interested previous versions are the
original 2004 - 2014 thread
and the 2015 edition

The original thread started by accident but quickly became a popular place to come and discuss off topic things such as hockey, new movies, or almost anything that wouldn't fit into existing AC forum threads. More Air Canada or Aeroplan topics such as flight feedback, in-flight services issues or mileage earning/redemption are all topics that should go into existing AC forum threads so others can benefit from this information. Topics about hotels or airlines and/or their loyalty programs should be posted elsewhere on FT.

While the conversation is more relaxed as it would be in a lounge that doesn't mean however that the FT rules don't apply her as they definitely do so please refrain from controversial topics such as politics or religion, avoid profanities and treat other lounge patrons with the same respect you expect.

That awkward moment when the 12-page paper you thought was due on next Wednesday is actually due on Sunday....

Other news: today we had a class about our future in science. The prof talked about the process to get admitted to a PhD at this university. I'm not planning to apply, and even I got anxious while listening to him. Apparently you have to finish your thesis two months early and hand it in, then undergo an oral exam with a panel composed of people from a bunch of different specialties (eg stats, biochemistry, physics,...), and then present a research project to that panel -- basically the equivalent of prelims, except you're not even a PhD student yet -- and only the top 15 students (based on presentation + grades) get funding! And I thought the US was cutthroat...

Ok, that's great and all but I don't want to be sucking on any of your candy canes (that you purchased from Amazon, as per your post that I am quoting in this very post) while we hold hands and watch PBMC3.

They'll be gone by then man! PBMC3 doesn't even come out until March-ish.

Why is it almost always hot as balls at YYZ? The Asian folks today really slowed down T1 intl security.

It's nice and cool out today and the airport is still hot. Summer hot. Winter hot.

YYZ SUCKS.

When you 12 page paper on international politics and economics is an incoherent mess with exams in one week.

Scientists are the most unbelievably negative people I know. From day one as a science student, you have negativity thrown at you. How hard it is to pass the chem course and how most people fail to how difficult is it is to get funding to how no one ever gets a good postdoc or a faculty position. Well... People do and people thrive. the same ones that thrive in any industry. If others can do it then so can you. People who succeed are not special or twice the number of brain cells. Work hard and keep you nose clean.

Man, thank goodness I went to YuckU!!

Just kidding, I had my fair share of stressful moments. Good luck to both of you, it's these times in university that helps build and shape your character ^ ^ ^
