Barely under MPM, important to note that if I stopped in Singapore it would have changed my Turnaround and screws up the inbound completely.

YVR-SEA-ICN-SYD pot (AC-OZ-OZ)
SYD-SIN-HKG stop (SQ - SYD-SIN is actually SYD-CBR-SIN in a 777-300 on one flight number. Didn't think SQ actually released 773 seats to partners, but there you go)
HKG-TPE-YVR (BR)

Booked for 3 pax in J, but SIN-HKG only had 2 seats and TPE-YVR only had one. Time to get awardnexus alerts

SIN > MNL J SQ
23:40 layover
MNL > ROR Y UA

ROR > ICN J OZ
ICN > PVG J OZ
PVG > YYZ J AC

It ended up being 440k points $1800 $900 in fees (two of us).

Only way out of ROR is via Guam (mess getting home) or ICN, and only way forward ICN is either through PVG or LAX (and I'm not in the mood of going through the US). Hoping some direct ICN > YYZ opens up.

The layovers are perfect because I have friends in all three places and so getting to stay with them.
Ended up changing the flight based on some advice:

YYZ > ORD Y AC
ORD > HND F NH
22h layover
HND > PEK J NH
PEK > AKL J CA
STOP
AKL > PER Y NZ
DEST
PER > SIN J SQ
13h layover
SIN > MNL J SQ
23:40 layover
MNL > ROR Y UA
STOP
ROR > GUM Y UA (30 minute connection time - !!!!)
GUM > HND J UA
HND > ORD F NH
ORD > YYZ Y UA

Ended up extending time a bit in Singapore (taking 1am flight from Perth, which was recommended for easy sleep). Modified to go back through Guam so 1) can get an extra 1.5 days in Palau and 2) get on F on the way back

220,000 points + $450 per person.

Just booked one yesterday for march break next year. Three of us business to asia.

YOW-YUL AC
YUL-LGA AC (Economy)
JFK-TPE BR
TPE-HKG BR (Stop)
HKG-TPE BR
TPE-SIN SQ (Destination)
SIN-HND SQ (Stop) (773 SQ plane)
HND-FUK NH (Economy)
FUK-TPE BR (Hello Kitty plane)
TPE-ORD BR
ORD-YOW (Economy)

A few interesting observation,
1) Two transfer through TPE on inbounding and it was approved, until now, I thought only one per direction is allowed. Maybe the agent did not pick it up neither the ticketing dept. As there was an error booking it and after three tries in 2 hours, the agent put me on hold and book it through the ticketing dept for me.
2) Not every NH plane domestic is bookable. I thought I could go to the NH website and look at the schedule and pick the one I want, but no. He has 60% of the plane that I could see on the NH website. (Not because it is from air japan or main line, just only some are available.) In fact none of the KIX-HND flight that I was original looking into booking is available to book even there are flights every hour. At the end, I just ask the agent what he sees and I pick from there.
3) Like the previous poster said, I thought SQ would not release 773 plane for business, however, I found out the SIN-KIX and SIN-HND both are 773 and available to book. And I found 3 business seats too!

Total 247 tax in per person, lots less than I expected. There must be an error as I looked at the receipt and I did not see any scamcharge, but I know at least the few AC flights that I took should be $34.5 per routing. I was estimating in the $300s. It beats my lowest total to go Asia on these 2 stops mini-rtw flight.

SQ has a regional configuration for some 773s with 2x2x2 in Business Class, which are bookable.

Booked for 2019 all in Business (J)
160,000 Aeroplan miles plus $480 in taxes and $33 phone booking fee:

YYZ-LAX Air Canada 787-9 (AC791)
LAX-TPE Eva 777-300 (BR11)
TPE-BKK Thai 787-9 (TG633)
BKK-SIN Singapore 787-10 (New Aircraft) (SQ983)
— STOP —-
SIN-SYD Singapore 777-300 (SQ288)
— DESTINATION —–
SYD-SIN Singapore 777-300 (SQ288) (1hr stop in CBR)
SIN-ICN Singapore A330-300 (SQ600)
— STOP —-
ICN-NRT Ethiopian 787-8 (ET672) — 20 hour transit —
NRT-SFO ANA 777-300 (NH8)
SFO-YYZ Air Canada 787-9 (AC754)

At the time of booking Asiana (OZ) award availability wasn't visible to Aeroplan agents which is why there is the Ethiopian flight from ICN-NRT.
However OZ availability is now showing up on Aeroplan.com again.

Also currently SQ has both angle and lie flat J seats on aircraft from Singapore to Australia which is why I made sure to get the 773 on the SIN-SYD route with lie flat seats. See my LoyaltyLobby blog post for more details on this.

Thanks for noting. When I was booking I was expecting much less surcharges, and the agent (who didnt know better) said that because of both AirChina and AirCanada..so i just quoted her. I find that AirChina opened up availability on a flight from Beijing to YUL, so i'm going to switch it and hopefully get back the ridiculous charges from PEK-YYZ.

Just booked our first mini-RTW trip for 2019.
All segments in business except SFO to LAX.

YVR to SFO on Air Canada Express/Jazz AC8840. 23h45m layover.
SFO to LAX on United UA256. 23h26m layover. Economy.
LAX to NRT on ANA NH175. STOP
HND to GMP on ANA NH861. 22h55m layover
ICN to TPE on Asiana OZ711. 22h50m layover
TPE to BKK on EVA Air BR201. 23h50m layover
BKK to SIN on Singapore Airlines SQ975. TURNAROUND
SIN to IST on Singapore Airlines SQ392. 23h50m layover
IST to CDG on Turkish Airlines TK1821. STOP
CDG to BRU on Brussels Airlines (Operated by ASL Airlines France) SN3628. 1h25m connection
BRU to LHR on Brussels Airlines SN2093. 22h15m layover
LHR to YYZ on Air Canada AC869. 20h50m layover
YYZ to YVR on Air Canada AC101. END

155000 miles per person for Asia2
Fees: $422.03 per person + booking fee.

MPM YVR to SIN = 13196 per FT thread. Lots of leeway and options on the Asia half of the routing. Tighter coming back through Europe which limited some option/flexibility both in terms of cities and airlines.

Hey I'm interested in pretty much the same itinerary. Was it possible to go to JFK/YUL/YYZ on Swiss and bypass LHR to avoid YQ and LHR fees?

Actually, my primary attempts were to try to route though the New York area airports (or Chicago or Montreal as secondary options) for a long layover after CDG but I couldn't find the connections to make it happen (from a business class perspective, long enough layover perspective, etc). I could make it to New York (like on Brussels Airlines via Brussels landing at 12:50pm) but couldn't find a good connection back to YVR (or even SEA to YVR or YYZ/YUL to YVR the next day) for my dates in late June/early July. You may have more luck outside the start of summer, if you are ok with a shorter (6hr?) layover, or economy on the TATL leg.

I'm not sure if it's possible to add a layover in New York via Swiss/ZHR or Lufthansa/FRA and back to YVR from an MPM perspective. On the other hand, there was some very limited availability for CDG to ZHR/FRA/BRU to YYZ/YUL to YVR which would have avoided (some) AC YQ and LHR.

Hope this helps. Good luck on your searches.

Thanks to the FT community booked this for a party of four. Surprised at the decent amount of availability in J for a relatively last minute booking for fall travel:
YVR-LAX (AC Y) Connecting 24hr
LAX-ICN (OZ J) Connecting 24hr
ICN-PVG (OZ J) Connecting 24hr
PVG-TPE (CA J) Connecting 24hr
TPE-MNL (BR Y) 1st Stop
MNL-SIN (SQ J) Destination
SIN-CGK (SQ J) Connecting 3hr
CGK-IST (TK J) Connecting 12hr
IST-MUC (TK J) 2nd Stop
MUC-FRA-YVR (LH J) High YQ ride home

$780 including telephone charge PP

Was surprised I could connect through LAX, thought it will go over MPM. Might change some flights to BR/NH to Asia to whittle down YQ once they open up seats closer to departure.
