According to the armchair FOTSG finger-wagging experts here, nobody buys walk-up J.

Enh, I've paid $8K for Asia-Europe travel on SQ, and I'm not exactly C-level or anything, so I totally woudln't be surprised if some exec needed to fly _and_ needed AQD for some reason, so he finangled his way into a $10K ticket without anybody really caring.

This could be solved by allowing one to be placed on both eUp waitlists. That would also allow the waitlistee to decide if they want PY if J falls thru. I've witnessed people at the gate upset that eups were used for PY, and trying to get back into their original Y seat that now had been given to someone else.

Lots of people...
1) Those travelling for business- maybe not always, but sometimes that is just what the fares are. My boss is looking at a $10K fare to Japan right now.
2) There are a LOT of people out there who can afford Full J pricing for the flexibility it affords them. Not sure there are many of them spending time on this forum though.

Or a really good United agent manages to snag that J1 to address an IROPS on a United basic economy fare booked on AC metal...that happened to me once when a $6,000 J fare was all that was available YVR-YYZ. To make it sweeter (and sweatier), I also landed at the far end of YVR-Transborder when the YYZ-bound flight began boarding and managed to boot it through customs and security to make it the gate 6 minutes after scheduled takeoff. I still got my seat, possibly because AC thought I was full J.

But it is a finding a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow that a unicorn pooped out type of odds. Not impossible, but uncommon.

Thoughts from the group: Wonder what the changes are that my e-upgrade will go through? Flying AC33, YVR to SYD on Sunday November 26th. I pulled this from my free trial of expertflyer. I'm a bit surprised there's no R space yet, but I guess AC is hoping for some paid/bidding upgrades?

Oh geez, that's good to know! Completely forgot my fare and status. I'm in PE (N) and a SE. My first time flying overseas. Couldn't stomach a $6k airfare in J and I have a lot of e-upgrades to spend. Hopefully it'll come through... Thanks for the input!

But as an SE in N class, I would think the chances are ok. Of course, some will choose the eupgrade bidding option/LMU, so its hard to say what will be left after that.
Biggest thing is to check in as close to T-24 as possible, as check-in time could become a deciding factor.
