Looking at a YYZ-SFO flight next Mon. J=9, R=0. Are they expecting a lot of J walk-ups or will they just release some R space at T24 ? SE on high flex.

Also, there are many pax on a Lat FP on such such as these which, as you probably know, offer free upgrades into J at T-48h.
So it would make much more sense to look at availability at T- <48h.

AC 757 J0
AC 739 J8
AC 759 J9
I assume you're talking about 737 or 759.
I've never flown on Monday (maybe morning, definitely not night), but I was very hit or miss with upgrades prior to the eUp changes that were made to reduce the credits we got. Since then, I've seen empty seats.

I guess I will wait till T<48 and check then. EF shows 10 seats free. My return upg on a red eye already cleared.

On the Sat 737 has J10 showing as J9R6 last weekend (thanks for it up!). Seat map showed one seat went, and I had my pick of same 9 when eUped today.
So likely J9R5. Holding open that many seems a little harsh. I can see that one being busy for business travelers though getting in early Monday?

T24 and J=9 (11 according to EF) and R is still 0. All other classes are also at 9 so not like there is a lot of opup planned due to oversold.

Actually, with J9, I would've expected AC to silenty clear a few SEs off the waitlist, although that's more common on int'l routes IME.
