IME it was always the other way around anyway (international segment cleared, domestic didn't).

An advantage if you get to 2MM status you now get 40 PlusPoints (one GPU equivalent) each year, if I am reading it correctly.

IME, this is exactly what happens. I get upgraded on the short haul 20 min flight to DEN almost immediately but have to bite my nails until T-24 to find out the international leg didn't and won't clear. By then, coach cabin is full so I have gravitated to calling in and asking them to ONLY apply the upgrade request to the long haul. Then, of course, if the international segment clears, the domestic segments have filled up but at least I get the experience on the long haul.

I did not see anyone reply to your post yet, but your 30 point comment seems to be correct to me. If it is perhaps a glitch or something.

The question is had you already been in premium plus or is that the fare class you purchased? Because that would be a difference in the points needed and if it’s going from economy to Polaris business you would still need the 40 points.

Purchased R fare which I believe is Premium Plus.
its still showing the 40points deducted, so I’ll probably have to write in!

anyone else seeing 30 for PP to Polaris?

I got 30 from PremiumPlus to Polaris Upgrade. two different segments both 30

As a recently minted Premier Platinum, I received the e mail explaining about Points Plus, and yesterday there was a banner statement across my UA account explaining that they were working on the system, but it should be available Dec5th. I've got an upcoming EWR-CDG flight in late Jan, and was contemplating using 20 points to upgrade to Economy Plus. But checking my reservation, the only options given to me today were the usual $$ + miles for Polaris or 20,000 points for EP. No where did it give me the option to use PP. Where do you find them on your account. Or is the fact that I just made Platinum in Oct, mean the points will not be on my account until January ?

of course this is all messed up. So I can upgrade to PZ from Prem Eco for 30 but NOT from W for 40 or K from 80? How does this make any sense?

That flight is PZ0 on the BOS-SFO leg and PZ9 on the SFO-HKG leg. The website has never displayed upgradeable legs well; I'm not surprised that it still doesn't do so. :(

Of course you would be able to upgrade it from W or K, despite what the screen suggests. Just another reason to make sure to check all inventory yourself rather than believe what United.com displays on this screen... :(

It's just a display issue due to married segment logic. BOS-SFO doesn't offer Premium Plus and the flight is PZ=0 so the flight is waitlisted. This carries over to any of the coach buckets on the SFO-HKG route. But you can see the upgrade from Premium Plus to Polaris for 30 PlusPoints because it's upgrading from a bucket that's not tied to married segments.

Honestly, I was confused by your post at first because I kept looking at it giving you the upgrade on SFO-HKG while the flight availability clearly shows PZ=0. I couldn't figure out how that was happening until I realized it's due to married segments. I agree this is super confusing. But as jsloan mentioned, the display of upgrades during a revenue ticket search has always been finicky at best.

As we are trained to do, you can search each segment individually (first or last) to see what would clear an upgrade immediately.

160? The equivalent of 2 GPUs for SFO-HKG and another 2 for the return???

My tkt is deep discount economy $429 lax-Sfo-Hkg RT. I was confirmed upgrade T-48 for RT. Burning excess 1/2020 exp 80 PP each way for intl segments= 160 PP for RT.

Same W fare but priced differently depending on the upgrade you choose.
Why aren’t they all $1257 ?

What does the return look like for those options?

I will guess that the non-upgrade W out is combining with T (or something sub-W) on the return.

edit: beat to the punch!

Well, that is new.

edit: If you go all the way to the summary, is it W/V?

You have to go all the way to the booking page to compare fares.

I noticed the apparent fare difference last night, but in every example I checked it was a RT pricing display problem.

Weird!
Could there be a difference in taxes and/or fees?
