There is nothing quite as satisfying as knowing your upgrade to United Economy has cleared!

Bulk tickets used to require a call in, and sometimes a fight with an agent to upgrade. Now easily done in the app :)

PlusPoints conversion went correctly but check-in for a flight is all messed up. I was wait-listed for an instrument upgrade tomorrow CLE-LAX and it's showing me WAY down the list now that I've checked in. I'm even behind quite a few who haven't even checked in yet.

The Co-pay is through the roof!!! Points Plus should be "Points Suck"

Search SIN-SFO after Jan 1. The co-pay is $1435 and 40 points!!!!

The points plus system is bogus. It's basically a way to taking GPUs, throwing them deeper into trash can, and then squeezing more money out of us.

The co-pays are exorbitant now!!!

Unbelievable. Points plus is actually "Points Suck"

Was charged 40 points to go from my original R fare to polaris. I thought it was supposed to be 30 to go from OAR to Z?

I did not see anyone reply to your post yet, but your 30 point comment seems to be correct to me. If it is perhaps a glitch or something.

The question is had you already been in premium plus or is that the fare class you purchased? Because that would be a difference in the points needed and if it’s going from economy to Polaris business you would still need the 40 points.

By the way might have found something weird ..

as of yesterday I had 8 RPU (all listed as expiring 1/20) and 5 GPU (exp 1/21) in my account. Would be 360 PPs

this morning I had 360 PPs, 80 expiring in ‘20 and 280 in ‘21

The thing is I think yesterday’s info was wrong. Not sure how I could have earned 8 RPUs all expiring in the same program year... right?

This is a fantastic piece of unexpected upside. I had a GPU applied, and cleared, on a upcoming premium fare. I though the GPU was burned. Instead, they applied 30 PlusPoints and returned 10 to my account. Now I'm going to have more PPs than I thought!

Also, given this level of slicing, I doubt they'll separate RPU points from GPU points. We should be able to extend 80 points, regardless of source, full stop.

Not sure why you are surprised by this considering it was explicitly covered in the FAQ of PlusPoints and it was discussed a ton on this thread. But I guess if you're happy, we're all happy :)

under GPU scheme you get free UG BOS-EWR so why is this better?

I think the OP is opining that within the confines of the new system, they are quite happy they do not have to waste the 20 PlusPoints for BOS-EWR if EWR-xxx doesn't clear. It's a valid thought IMO. Why waste 20 points on BOS-EWR?

RPUs were uncapped until this year (expiring 2021)

However, I still suspect that you're correct, and that the total is now correct, as you should have gained 4 RPUs with a 2021 expiration date if you've already re-qualified for 1K, which it looks like you have.

Yes, just spent 60 PlusPoints for a bulkfare PP trip without any problem, right on United.com, this is a huge upgrade IMO.

So I have an economy award flight to Tokyo that I had waitlisted with a GPU. I had always been suspicious whether the agent had properly done the upgrade because it said “PN Class Requested” instead of “upgrade requested”. The math is off on my total waitlist. It says I have 240 requested but I should have 400 (6 total segments waitlisted)

When I do the future flight tool I do show on the upgrade list for one flight but not the Tokyo ones.

so there IS a difference in upgrade requested vs PN class requested.

EDIT: Oops. Total brain fart. Was thinking each segment was 80 and instead it's 40. So 240 is correct for 6 segments. Confirmed looking in the list of requested upgrades (which I love btw, sometimes i forget what i have waitlisted). So it's only the "future flight on the app" waitlist which isn't showing, and frankly I don't expect that to.

Anyone know the answer to these two questions re: using PlusPoints on LH?
1. Do LH-operated segments still need to be booked on LH flight numbers (or converted over after the fact) instead of UA codeshare flight numbers?
2. Is there still a special, separate request process? Or is it now done just via Upgrade Cabin section on one's reservation just like United flights?

Thanks!

A couple of PlusPoints data points:

I had applied a RPU for Ms. 1K for her flight 12/3. It didn’t clear but it was not immediately redeposited. I called the 1K line this morning, was transferred to the “1K service desk” where the agent immediately deposited 20 PlusPoints to my account.

More concerning, I am flying ORD-SFO-AKL-SFO-ORD next week. I applied GPUs at booking. The overwater segments cleared immediately and the domestic segments were waitlisted. As of this morning, the SFO-ORD segment now shows as “CPU eligible.” The “Upgrade cabin” option is available, requesting 20 PlusPoints to waitlist for First (or buy up to First for $533). Another call to the 1K line and the agent said I am still waitlisted, no need to use more points. Who to believe, the agent or the app? The only reason I can think of for the confusion is that my layover at SFO is 17 hours.

This will be interesting. Technically with PlusPoints you cannot go back in and add segments to the confirmed upgrade. You must use new points. My guess is the system sees you cleared SFO-AKL and won't allow you to add on ORD-SFO for "free"...it requires more points. Technically the old rules of using the GPU should apply but how they code that and how that works is anyone's guess I think. Someone at the 1K line should be able to waitlist you but I don't know how they would code it since it would be an unsupported upgrade unless you use more PlusPoints.

PlusPoints requests don't require co-pays; MileagePlus Upgrade Awards do.

I have the same situation with flight today GPU cleared from A fare to Polaris and 40 PP taken out. 1K agent told me that after the flight I will get 10 PP returned to my account.

Agent also told me that StW is for 1K and GS account holders only, cannot be applied for friends and family.
